X51v Memory Allocation and Use.

Okay, I need some comparisons here. I have the X51v and I got a message today that internal memory was getting really low. I looked at the memory allocations and I had only about 3mb left in Storage Memory. Yes I was a bad boy and haven't cleaned up mail and temp files.

So I went in and deleted Internet Explorer temp files and also deleted old deleted mail in my mailboxes to clean all that up.

None of my data is in the internal memory. I use SD and CFII cards for that.

Now when I go to start>setting>system>memory I show

Storage ....................................Program

Total: 195.01 mb ................Total: 49.47 mb
In Use: 145.10 ...................In Use: 31.68 mb
Free: 49.94 ..................... Free: 17.79 mb

These figures are with the normal things running upon booting the device.

Does this sound about right? Is there anyway to get more internal Storage memory for it. An upgrade, or is it not worth it?

Any new programs I might download would go on the SD or CFII cards.

Just looking for comparison information and recommendations.

I've been using my X51v for about 20 months, installed all programs to internal memory, and keep data on CF & SD cards. My figures are :

Storage ....................................Program
Total: 195.00 mb ................Total: 51.41 mb
In Use: 65.03 ...................In Use: 31.14 mb
Free: 124.58 ..................... Free: 20.27 mb

I've never really understood the difference between memory types, but as long as they're not bumping along the bottom and everything runs ok I'm not too bothered. I don't understand the electrics in my car either... :-)

I imagine that my storage figure is smaller because I don't deliberately put anything there - probably stuff that programs have dumped...?

I dont have an x51v, but I hard reset my device and reinstalled everything yesterday, took about 4 hours to get it setup back to normal for me. My old memory figures looked like this

storage 90 mb program 57.x mb
in use 62 mb in use 31 mb
free 28 mb free 26 mb

now it looks more like this
storage 90 mb program 57 mb
in use 12 mb in use 44 mb
free 68 mb free 33 mb

It was a pain but it was definately worth the effort! My axim is running much quicker now, and I am pleased with the numbers I got from my reinstall. My before figure was after running cleaning type programs (ie sk tools, memaid, pocket mechanic) and that was the highest I could get it. I also reinstalled programs via cabs instead of installers, I may be totally wrong on this, but I believe that it might take less space than when using the installer, but I could also be crazy.

I was looking at the ram upgrade for x50v/x51v from pocketpctechs still not quite sure I need or would want to spend the 80 bucks for it and be without my pocket pc for 2-3 weeks, but 128 megs ram would sure be nice..
