Help on ROM upgrade, please
I am running A12 on my Axim. I did the upgrade so long ago, I have no recollection of how I did it. I have looked at a post here from 9/30/07 that mentions an A03 Preview and and A03 RTM...but for someone not cmfortable with all this, I am mystified. I've seen something about an A17 ROM, too, and so now I have no idea where I should go to download what file, and then what to do with it once I've got it. So after you have a good laugh, please let me know how to proceed to update my device.
Thanks.

Mark,
No question of having a laugh. Serious questions are always welcome.
I don't have time tonight to answer this fully, but if you search the forum for "football" you'll probably find links to the video on Youtube which will show you how to install WM6. If nobody else answers overnight (unlikely), I'll have another proper go tomorrow.

Mark, go back a few posts to the second link in KellyT's post, the second link is for the Maaku WM6.1 which is now out of beta and works great. Download the file and unzip it. It contains two files, copy the files onto a SD card and insert into the axim. The files are only applicable to x51v. The hard part is being able to press the right buttons. Realise there is a hard reset involved in this process and unless you use Sprite backup you can not restore your data across rom updates.
The SD Flash procedure is as follows: You need to hold the power button, and the wifi button in at the same time, then use the stylus to hold the reset switch in for a couple of seconds. this should bring up the flash loader screen, then depress the button in the center of the dpad twice to start the flash process. put the axim in the cradle and wait for the rom to load, it takes quite a bit of time but better on power. follow the prompts at the end of the loading and viola.
HTH

WM6 download
Pedah...Thanks for all the guidance. Following the link you suggested, I encountered a download labeled "Antik Beta 06a" and another called "Pure Beta06p." Which is the one I want?
Also, I found your description of the button pushing amusing. It sounds like twister for geeks.
I was unable to find the link to the Youtube demo of the upgrade, though, even after several searches that I thought would surely bring it up. Any finer description of where to find it?
Thanks again.

Just a quick update - jump straight to the 7-minute mark on the video, which is where Drakey shows the actual 3-button push - the previous parts are the downloading, unzipping, ec. which I imagine you already know.
Pedah (or anyone else who can answer),
I'd be interested in your experiences with the Lenny ROM 6.1. I've been using Football's 6 A03 for months, and the only problems I notice are :
- wi-fi is awkward - I need to boot Odyssey to engage it
- after a soft reset wi-fi automatically starts (maybe unconnected to WM6, but it didn't happen under WM5) and I have to manually stop it.
Any thoughts on the differences bewteen 6.0 and 6.1? Any noticeable problems?

Almost ready for upgrade...
DAHawthorne...
Thanks for the link to the video. It was very helpful. I think all I need now is some precise direction on exactly which file I should use for the upgrade to WM6. I am not adventurous enough for a beta, so if you can recommend a version that has been out for a while and is known to be stable, that would be great.

Mark,
The link to the one I use (Football's WM6 A03 RTM - Release To Manufacture) is in post 4 of this thread.

Upgrade worked!
DAHawthorne and Pedah...
Thanks so much for taking the time to guide me through the process, which went without a hitch. The YouTube video was also quite helpful. I just prayed that I would not have a power failure in the middle of the upgrade and wind up with an expensive paperweight.
I have a couple of final questions: Is this WM6 the same, or close to, the OS on the new phones, etc.? And who is the very clever Football who wrote this? I don't think I have seen postings by him here.
Thanks again.

It is as close to the real WM6 as Football got it before he left off developing it. Football is a russian fellow, and you will find out more about him if you go and search at XDA Developers.
As for the WM6.1 files I referred to before, either will do, you can read what is included in the Roms in the post where the Links are. They both have some added extras, freeware included. Both are more stable than the Fotball Rom in my opinion. I installed the Pure and haven't had a hitch.
@ Dahawthorne, I haven't tried the Lennysh WM6.1 Rom, but the Maaku Roms in the earlier link are great!
