Wireless Service
My wife baught me an AXIM X51V for Christmas. This is my first PDA so I'm still learning all it's features. I can see it has its own network cards built in. I can connect via the internet anytime I'm around a wireless router.
How can I get a wireless service that allows me internet connection anywhere I go

Greetings and welcome to the wonderful world of handheld computing!
There are a few options available for internet access:
1. There are a number of national 'hotspot' providers who for a monthly fee will let you login at one of their many hotspots. I think that most "Starbucks" coffee shops have one of the brands. You can as well just get a day or a few hour pass.
2. If you have a cell phone which has bluetooth AND a wireless plan that is able to "tether" an external device, you can have wireless internet on your Axim anywhere where you have cell phone coverage. (this is what I do)
If your thinking of doing much surfing, might I suggest checking out "OPERA.COM", the Opera browser for the PPC is the next best thing to a desktop.
Best of luck with your new Axim!

I currently have verizon wireless with my LG VX850 cell phone. I use a bluetooth headset with it.
How can I get my X51V hooked to it? I thought a new and seperate phone number would be needed?

Verizon Wireless offers Vcast wireless communication at $15/ month. To get that working on my X51V do I just need to purchase an EVDO card?

No, you should be able to connect via bluetooth if your phone is capable of that function it all depends on your phone and your cellular carrier. Some cellular carriers disable that function on thier network because it slows down thier systems. As far as not being able to connect wirelessly, people tend to forget that the Axim X51V is only capable of a wireless B connection. So while you will be able to see a G network you will not be able to connect to that network unless it is B enabled. Good luck with connecting via your phone, there are numerous articles here and on aximsite.com on that subject.

Thanks for the help.
I have bluetoothed my LG VX8350 to the X51V. I had Vpath activated a few days ago. Vpath offers Vcast along with Mobile Web. I can connect to the internet using my cell phone.
If my cell phone could operate as a modem I would know to access the web on my X51V. I just have to figure out how bluetooth can pass it on?

Its likely that Verizon has the Bluetooth modem function of your phone disabled.
Personally I use Sprint and being able to "tether" my Axim required a special "Phone as a modem" data plan (PAM) $40 a month.

I found out my LG VX850 actually can work as a modem. Verizon wireless also has a Data Plan:
$60/ month unlimited
$30/ month 1MG limit
Instead of pay that much money I'm going to try the bluetooth method. My X51V is now blutoothed with the VX850. After I get internet access on the VX850, how do I pass it on my X51V?
Thanks for your help.

I'm pretty sure that you'll have to purchase the data plan to make that happen. As i stated before cellular companies disable that function because it slows down thier networks. You used to be able to access the web by bluetooth connection with your phone, however once the cell companies figured out people were doing this they blocked it and started charging for it. Just like when they took away the no answer transfer feature on cell phones because no one would buy the voice mail plan when you could just have your cell forward to your home answering machine if you didn't answer your cell phone. (greedy buggers LOL)

Hence why I pay Sprint for the ability to tether my laptop/ax51v to my cell phone (via usb or via bluetooth) and surf at 'powervision' speeds.
I don't know about Verizon, but Sprint charges $0.01 a kilobyte if you don't have a PAM data plan.
