Question Lean Clean Utility Machine

It offends my sense of order to have applications on my 51V that I don't use or can replace with a better product that has a smaller footprint.

Therefore, I have a few questions that pertain to a 51v with WM 5.0 (ROM12).

1. Quit wearing suits 3 years ago upon retirement and have seen enough slides/slideshows to last a lifetime. Can I remove Powerpoint and would it have any negative affects? Is it uses as my picture viewer, etc?

2. I still use Excel for manipulating data but primarily do on my desktop or laptop. Can I remove Excel from AX or are there negative aspects of removing it?

3. Can TCPMP do everything and more than Windows Media Player. If so, can I remove WMP and replace with TCPMP without any adverse affects?

Assuming I could remove some of the standard suite above, would it result in more program memory or improved performance? Its not really a storage isse as I have mucho gig in SD and CF world.

If I slimmed down the machine, would everything be reinstalled upon doing a hard reset?

Hopefully, this msg makes sense. It just seems stupid to have to keep the standard suite when it can be replaced with better products for free.

Thanks!

I don't think you can remove the programs you'd like to remove. I haven't run across any program that would acomplish that. Besides a hard reset will reload them anyway. And yes TCPMP will do all and more than media player does. Good luck.

Improved performance can be obtained by going to the ROM WM6 A03 at least from my experience. My X51V is way faster than it was with WM5 A12 or for that matter WM5 A17.

still looking into some of this myself. Researching rom kitchens.

search "WM6 football" to find a better rom
xda-developers has a thread about it.

A rom kitchen may be able to do this or we may be able to just remove them i don't know. I still use power point occasionally and can't live without excel. but would like to remove media player and insert TCPMP as a replacement.

I've never used media player, I've always TCPMP for videos. I used to have a copy of winamp for PPC, but i've since stopped using my AX for music since i got a music phone. I really don't think that removeing any of the extra programs is really going to free up that much space or change how fast your AX runs. But keep us posted more people then you think may be interested in this too.
