CF SD cards

Help I want to buy a CF & Sd Cards and need guidance I have just got a V51, thanks.

I'm not sure what you are actually asking for.

All SD and CF cards will work.
You can use both types together
Any size upto 8GB will work
For most uses card speed will not make a significant impact

The cheapest source is ebay, but other than that, I think you need to be a little more specific on what you are asking.

CF cards come in sizes up to 16 Gb at the moment and apparently compatable with the x51v, go for a reputable brand, sandisk, A data, etc. Price is probably your only limitation, the larger the card the higher the price obviously, but knowing what you want to store on the card should determine the size of the card.

SD cards, can be a different kettle of fish, 8 Gb is the largest standard SD card at the moment but I have read a lot of reports of people having trouble with 8gig cards not being read by their axim. I am using a 4 Gb no name SD [shintaro brand] that works fine.

Note Well a lot of the larger SD cards now are SDHC, which is in no way compatible with your axim

From what I hear, cards larger than 4 Gb will not work in it!

With the new hack of WM6 coming soon on xda developers website , all SDHC cards as well as normal old cards will work even of 8gb or more capacity. CFs can be used with much higher capacities. You must have read Samsung has released 30 GB CF card - yes 30 GB. it is like a harddisk. if it fits in x51v it will be great storage.

Rocksolid, are you sure about the SDHC claim? From what I understand it's a hardware incompatibility issue with standard SD slots and SDHC cards that require SDHC capable slots. I'd be happy to be proven wrong on this, have you found a software resolution to make SDHC work in the X51's SD slot?

Now that's interesting because I thought that the SDHC used the same hardware interface, and it was a matter of software to recognise the different format, I'll have to do a bit more research, and see if I can find something definite, because all of the reports on the WM6 hack say it supports SDHC?????

Wikipedia, while not always correct, says:

"SDHC cards only work in SDHC compatible devices, but standard SD cards work in both SD and SDHC devices. The SDHC trademark is licensed to ensure compatibility... Devices that do not specifically support SDHC do not recognize SDHC memory cards."

I saw a post or two at XDAD saying that SDHC worked in WM6 but I'm dubious.

Just to note, I bought a Sandisk 4gb SDHC card off of ebay. My Axim x51 doesn't recognize it at all. Sandisk website does not list this pda a compatible with their SDHC cards. Maybe there is some software upgrade out there??

Having noted that a SCHC card won't work with x51, can anyone recommend a 4gig or higher card that has worked well and stable with their Axim? The no name brand 4gig card I bought off of ebay is finicky and will sometimes not let me install programs to it.
