Can't play any converted movies.

I have tried several conversion processes of dvd's and avi's to a pocket pc format. I have been able to convert but never able to play using either pocket divx or window media player.
Has anybody had any success in doing this? If so what format did you convert to and what player are you using. Pocket divx won't read avi files and windows media player won't open .wmv files.

The older free version of TCPMP plays more formats than most other players. You can find it here. The newest version is pay, I bought it but it isn't that much better than the older free version.

I agree. There is also the SOMPY player at sompy dot com. Absolutely free. I've been through tons of converter programs, and playback was always out of sync with the video, or had crappy quality. I use the sompy video converter as well, since both work hand in hand. These 2 programs are so good in fact, people wonder why they are downloadable for free :-)

Thanks for the info. I tried the Sompy converter, converted an AVI file to both Pocket PC format and WMV7. Neither would play with the Sompy player or Windows media. Is there any trick you use to convert using Sompy converter?

So I broke down and bought spb's mobile dvd. During the trial version it converted an avi movie and it played great on windows mobile player. So I buy the program and since then everything it converts - windows mobile player won't play them. Plays for 10 seconds then states " cannot perform that command". This program only converts to .wmv format. I tried mobile divx and sompy and neither will play these converted files.
Any suggestions on any other mobile player that plays .wmv files? or avi?

Hopefully this is my last post on this topic. But the problem appears to be with the SD card I was using - a 4gb Elite Pro card off of ebay (have also had problems installing programs to this card). Anyway bought a 2gb Sandisk card at Costco - transferred 3 converted files to it - everything plays just fine. I guess it pays to go with name brand cards.

For some time I have been using the free TCMP player (I just searched google for it and still find it for download on the net) and pocket divx converter to convert mpg's i had downloaded. The quality isn't so hot, but I am using an Axim X5 with ppc2003 & low ram, etc., so...

I usually just listen to it when I drive, not try to watch it, so it has worked for me.

Someone recently told me about Slysoft's AnyDVD, CloneDVD, and their mobile apps. www.slysoft.com. They are for purchase, and offer 15 day trials. I have successfully copied commercial dvds, episodes off episodic dvds, and crunched them down and played them on my axim with these softwares.

Haven't tried the spb one mentioned here. Does it pull video off commercial dvd's for playback on ppc?

Haven't used the spb software to convert commercial dvd's, but it does appear to have that feature. You can download and try the trial version to see if it works for you.
