Syncing via Bluetooth driving me nuts!!
I've just purchased a Dell Inspiron 6400 running Windows XP Professional. Everything has been going fine until I downloaded AS4.5 and tried to sync with my AximX51V. I followed a bluetooth thread posted by Mahstah but just can't get it to sync.
As far as I can tell the Axim and the laptop are paired ok as in 'My Bluetooth Places' it confirms it's connected (via comm 8)
In Activesync on laptop i've selected comm 8
When I tap 'Connect via Bluetooth' on AS on Axim I get: 'Cannot find an exsisting partnership with a PC that supports Activesync. Would you like to set up a partnership now?'
In Bluetooth Partership Settings on Axim my laptop show its services as:
Serial Port
Dialup Networking
As I'm not very computer illiterate I just don't know where to go from here and any advice would be very much appreciated.

Apologies, I should have stated in my post that I've tried with 'serial port' checked.

I'm sure its no different with Activesync 4.5. The firts sync should be via USB cable or cradle. This establishes the partnership. After that you can switch to bluetooth for syncing.
Also remember that firewalls and programs such as Spybot , zone alarm etc can also block the first attempt to sync. Always make first connection with this diabled and then re enable after.
Good luck

Many thanks for your advice. I've successfully synced using the cradle but sadly I'm getting the same message as before.I've also tried using the Bluetooth Wizard on the laptop which lets you select Activesync for use with the PDA. This is so frustrating as I expect it must be something pretty simple which is causing my inabilty to sysnc using Bluetooth.

Do you get the ActiveSync service as an option in the Axim's BT settings? In the BT manager under the devices tab, double tap on the laptop's pair and checkthe services list. If ActiveSync is not in it, try re-pairing the two.

No, I don't get an AS Option in the Axim's BT Settings which is presumably the crux of my problem. I've tried pairing both ways ie from Laptop to Axim and vice versa. For whatever reason the AS Option just wont appear. I've used the BT Setup Wizard facility: 'I want to configure the BT Services that this computer will provide to remote devices'. AS is listed and I've checked it so I was hoping the Axim would recognise it - unfortunately not.

Did you try making both devices discoverable, deleting the Axim's devices and COM ports, then allowing them to pair again? Check for updates to your laptop's bluetooth manager. The BT manager I've used is called BlueSoleil, it seems to have worked for quite a few people. Unfortunately it is pay software if it doesn't come with your BT device. Also make sure you're using ROM A12.
Edit: Make sure you enable serial port as a service in your laptop's BT manager. This is required to match the port specified in AS on the laptop's connection settings.

Many thanks for your support. I think I'm going to have to put this on a back burner for a while as I'm due to move house shortly and just haven't got the time to follow this up at present especially as I'm able to sync ok via the cradle. I think I'll have to contact Dell to sort out why 'Bluetooth Devices' dont appear in my Laptop's Control Panel. It's all a bit strange as I've been able to connect successfully with my mobile to use a DUN facility. Once again thanks for all your help in trying to resolve my issues.
