X51v Problem Connecting to Wireless Linksys Router
Help... I need help
I just received my X51v and I'm having a devil of a time connecting to my Linksys Wireless router (model WRT54GS). Here's a summary of where I am.
I try to connect to the internet and it tells me to go to Start>Settings>Connections Tab>Network cards. Then it tells me to tap on Wireless tab. There is no Wireless tab. I tap on the "Dell Axim X51 WLAN Wireless Adapter" and then I leave "User Server-Assigned IP Address". And then tap on OK a few times to get back.
I tap on Dell WLAN Utility and then make sure WLAN is ON in the main menu.
I tap on Site and I see my wireless router listed. I tap on that and hold and it highlights it. Config, Tools and Advanced don't allow me to do anything as I'm using the "server assigned IP Address" feature.
When I tap on Internet Explorer from the main Start menu, it takes me to a help facility. And that's where it says to tap on Settings> Connections tab > Network Cards and this is where I get lost.
Do I need to purchase a 802.11b SD network card for this device? I thought there was a built in device and that's how I get the Linksys router listed?
Help... can anyone clue me in. I know I'm missing something here.
Thanks
Don

I'm one step farther now. Still need help
I disabled WEP on the Linksys Router and now the entry in WLAN Utility shows a check mark in the Site tab. It also shows up on the router as being connected too.
But I still get thrown to the help menus when I try to use Internet Explorer.
HELP !!!! Anyone out there the may have the answer.. Please help me.
Thanks
Don

Use the WLAN utility to configure your connection. In the connections tab there is a WLAN program you can use to set it up whether encrypted or not. You need to make sure your router is set to broadcast in b mode and not g only. Enable wifi using the button on the left side of the unit.

Well, I even got farther now. I can now get into the Internet with Internet Explorer. And I can receive mail, but CANNOT Send Mail. Still working on that one.
The only way I can get this X51v to work is to DISABLE WEP on my wireless router. Then it works, but when I have WEP Enabled, it shows the wireless network with a locked padlock on the WLAN Site screen.
If I could find a screen where I had to put in the PassPhrase of the WEP router, then I might be able to get through. I only have the internal wireless capability. I do not have an 802.11b SD card.
Maybe that device has better capability than the stock device. Is anyone running an 802.11b SD Card? I'd like to know if it offers more.
I'll keep working on this. Just takes time and patience.
Thanks
Don

If you can receive mail but not send, you have an SMTP configuration problem. Double check all the security and port settings for the SMTP server connection.
You can change the WEP key by turning on the WLAN. Hit the Setting button. Double tap the network you're connected to. Tap the Network Key tab. Here you can type in your WEP key or change the authentication settings.

Hmmm. I'm having problems doing that. But I did get the Send/Receive problem fixed and running now.
Regarding the WEP problem:
I tap on Start>Setting>Connections tab > Dell WLAN Utility
Turn on lan with the upper button; then tap "Setting" (lower button square). But that takes me to the "Configure Network Adapters" screen where I tap on "Dell Axim X51 WLAN Wireless Adapter"
Then I highlight the button for User Server-assigned IP Address; then tap on OK and Ok again on the pop us screen.
Then only way I get to see the networks that are available are by:
I tap on Start>Setting>Connections tab > Dell WLAN Utility and then tap on "Site Tab". That's where the SSID, Mode, Ch, Signal etc show. If I double tap on the connection with the lock, then nothing else happens. No screen pops up.
Am I missing something here?
I appreciate your help and assistance.
Don

There has been a known problem with the WLAN client sometimes not giving the proper options. With wifi disabled, the Setting button should take you to the "Configure Network Adapters" screen. With wifi enabled, you should be taken to the "Configure Wireless Networks" screen.
If it mistakenly brings you to the wrong screen when wifi is enabled a soft reset usually cures the problem.

Thanks. I tried that and I get the same results no matter. I do get to the Configure Network Adapters and that's it either with WLAN on or off. If I tap on the "Dell Axim X51 WLAN Wireless Adapter, it goes to another screen, but there is nothing in that series of screens that refers to setting up a WEP Client.
It's almost like the drivers don't know anything about WEP or WAP or any security features.
Got any ideas?
Thanks in advance. Oh, I did do the soft reset and that had no effect on the picks that came up in the screens.

Hey Don I'm just looking at my ax in regards to this, Go start/settings/connections/ network cards and you have the choice of either an already selected network card or to add new. and this is where you can set wep or other network protocols. HTH. make sure wireless is enabled, not BT
