Windows Mobile Device Centre stopped syncing.
For the past week no problem syncing my x51 to Vista Business via WMDC. Today it starts to sync then stops and states "not connected".
I have tried what MS suggests on the windows mobile site but to no avail.
Have updated rom to ver 12 - have tried all different usb ports available, etc.
Any ideas?
thanks.

Hey bob, I could find a few instances of this sort of problem, googling 'vista stops syncing with axim x51'. And there's a FAQ that you can have a look at. sorry I don't have anything concrete for you.

I think I found the problem!
It appears the CF card (512mb) that I inserted from my digital camera was causing some sort of conflict. I had inserted it yesterday and that is when the problem started.
I re-installed WMDC, took out the card and everything sync'd just fine. I then re-inserted the CF card to test if it was causing the problem, and sure enough same syncing problem reappearred.
Will update if problem re-occurs with something else.

Back from purdah (keeping quiet in shame...)
Bob,
Fantastic update - I've been trying for days to sync, with a program waiting in the background on my PC to install, read your post, pulled out my CF & SD, plugged in the X51V, and whack - program installed in 5 seconds flat.
Thanks for this - excellent.
David.

Looks like I spoke too soon...
Bob, is yours still working ok, when you remove the card(s) but not while they're installed? After the initial success I reported above, despite removing & reinstalling WMDC, it doesn't recognise it with or without cards, and it makes no difference whether the Axim is on or off when I switch on the computer and vice versa. I've tried with Bluetooth active and inactive, and all I get (despite the shiny pictures on the WMDC site of a whole list of options) is the Mobile Device Settings option - useless.
Back to square one.
Anyone any more advice?
David.

Did you try disabling the advanced network functionality on the Axim? Are you running the latest version of WMDC?

One of the things that has been niggling in the back of my mind since this fix was reported was the inconvenience, you can only install MSI packages to main memory on axim, not choose to install to card. Which means only being able to do CAB installs to cards, and if you don't know how to extract a CAB file from an installer package you use up your main memory very quickly. This is a bit of a workaround Idea, but there is an app called Card Export that enables veiwing of cards in axim like any other usb drive, essentially turns axim into a card reader for desktop access.

Mahstah,
Thanks for your help again. I'm beginning to agree with SpaGuru about Microsoft's ability to write products that can talk to each other.
I am using the latest WMDC - straight off the MS website yesterday.
And I can't switch off advanced functionailty. I checked around the site to see where it is, and you're talking about the checkbox in Settings/Connections/USB to PC? I can't even get to it, though I used to be able to. The Axim makes an attempt to throw up the screen and immediately blinks back to the desktop. No error messages, it just doesn't run in the cradle or off it.
I see that ActiveSync insists on running on the Axim - every time I kill it it pops back up in the Running Programs list. Is it ActiveSync that's supposed to perform the link with WMDS? If not, presumably it's in RAM and I can't kill it permanently?
Once again, thanks for your advice.
David.

If you're running ROM A12 and you still can't get the advanced USB functionality to disable you may need to hard reset. There is no reason that the option should fault out. ActiveSync will run all the time on the Axim and it's the component that WMDC talks to for syncing. I highly suggest a hard reset if basic system options aren't working for you.
