Car charger unsuitable for GPS navigation

It turns out that my Axim X51v keeps depleting the battery although it is being charged via the Car Charger at the same time. This makes it unsuitable to be used for GPS navigation. Please advice if this is defect of the Axims altogether, or the Car Charger should be different. My current one should be producing 5V, and 1A current. Should I look for something else?

i had the same problem, but it was fixed when i switched to a 2 amp charger.

After browsing through the forums I reached the same conclusion. However, it is not so easy to find such chargers - most of the available ones on the market are designed for up to 0.5A or 1A. I bought the car charger for PSP Sony from Speed Link with some anxiety though as it doesnt specify what current it is capable to deliver. Anyway this worked out brilliantly.
