Wink I gave up on Dell Axim X51v

    Mahstah, Pedah, and all:

Just to let you know, I have finally given up on the Dell Axim X51v. I have received since Dec 6, 2006, nine PDAs from Dell, 7 new ones and two refurbished ones. Each and every one had major problems that could not be fixed. I just sent back the latest refurbished one I had. Dell graciously is refunding me ALL my money for the PDA and all the accessories I bought. They had no solution for the problems I encountered.

At any rate, I have just ordered a HP IPAQ 2795 which is similar to the Axim X51v but doesn't have as many features. I hope I won't have to replace this one nine times!

Well, I will check in periodically and see what is happening on the site. I'm hoping Dell does come out with a WM6 PDA. I will probably buy it if it ever comes out. HP is supposedly coming out with WM6 devices in May, just akround the corner.

    Regards to all!

    Frank

I'm sorry to hear that Frank, I hope you are happy with the Ipaq, all the best!

edit: I really thought about this, I got my axim january 07. After an ipaq wm2003 that was my OS teacher and a palm before that really was no more use than my phone at the time. In 5 months you have had nine axims and I know about some of the problems you have had, but it would be helpful if you could list some of the main problems you have had. I ask because I had initial teething problems and do not claim to know everything about the eccentriciries of ax with wm5, and even though you have had a bad experience with ax there is still knowledge to be gleaned from that. I'm sorry to ask for a post mortem as such, but in the end it may help a multitude. Keep in touch mate

Yes i agree with Pedah. A post mortem report on all your problems could help others. I know it would be a pain but it would be appreciated by anyone that it helps. Keep in mind it wouldn't have to be extremely detailed to be of great value.

I cant remember all of the problems I had with the Axims. The 8th one they sent me didn't even work. I tapped on Winodws screen to start it but that is as far as it went. I replaced battery, did several hard resets but it kept locking up. The previous two had major slowdown problems even though I tried various software. It would take four minutes to soft reset and the programs/games would take forever to start. I uninstalled various programs, reinstalled but they continued to run very slow. Progrtams would start by themselves and lock up pda causing soft reset. The icons changed color, became black and white, even wrong icons were shown. Using Resco File exploref, I would tap on windows and just wait three or four minutes before I could tap on start menu and then the scroll on the right hand side of screen would lock up and I'd have to wait and then it would jump back to the beginning instead of continuing further on. Well, there are several other things' I just can't remember them. Backups would not work right. Programs were restored from backups but would not run and had to be reinstalled., I use the system backup, Spb Backup, amd Sprite Backup with no success.

Sounds like II'm complaining but I really am not. I use basically the same software that everyone else uses, all compatible with WM5 & the X51v. After nine (8) PDAS, I gave up, I hope Dell provides an update for A12 & WM5 for the Axim 50 & 51, and another PDA for WM6. We shall see. The WM6 devices are starting to come out.

    Regards,
    Frank

I'm starting to get a little ticked off. It seems like quality standards have dropped off the edge of the world again. It reminds me of the demise of the US auto industry in the Iacocca days; only this time on a world-wide scale. Everything runs on computers, and I'm getting very tired of being a full-time maintenance man for technology that is supposed to make my life easier.

    Pedah,
I've had the IPAQ hx2795b for over a week now. It was hard to get used to the fact that it is QVGA and not VGA like the Axim. I've had to do a few soft resets but basically I have installed about 175 games and 80 programs. It runs a little slow but it runs. I'm not experiencing the problems I had with my X51v. I'm waiting on a WM6 device. HP is supposed to be coming out with one this month (May) and who knows what Dell is up to!

Hey Frank, wow 175 games and eighty programs, Do you have a lot of time on your hands? lol. Are you using the phone facility as well? I'd have to say that I remain a bit sceptical about WM6, and I think I would hang off to see some of the bug reports before I jumped straight in, but that's me.

    All the best
