Windows Mobile Device Center
I just bought a new Toshiba laptop and I downloaded Windows Mobile Device Center to sync my AXIM X51V, but when i plug my AX into my USB/Charge cable my computer won't recognize my AX. Any Ideas?

I've seen a lot of similar posts lately. I wish I could reproduce the problem, but Vista works OK with my Axim. Similarly to XP, have you tried disabling firewall/antivirus/antispyware? What about disabling advanced networking functionality on the Axim?

I've read this again and again and I'm not using vista, but from what I've gleaned from searching, there are issues with one care and ax, depending on what version of office/outlook you have there may also be issues. These issues are not inherent to clean install vista?apparently and Mahstah has said that he cannot replicate your problem, It may be enviromental, ie; dependant on the other apps you are running and their interaction with vista, or a configuration settings fault. If you started with a clean machine you may want to reveiw the order in which you installed other software and go back to a clean machine and install WMDC first and then connect ax and see if that will get you connected. Also there have been reports of ax not working too well with outlook 2007, it requires you to go to detect and repair in outlook to fix the sync problem from a clean install of outlook 2007, have a look at this thread microsoft garbageHTH

Pedah,
As stated in my first post i bought a BRAND NEW TOSHIBA Laptop. LOL Trust me i've read all the post on here about VISTA(although i am going back thru them carefully now) and i didn't want to go to VISTA either. I was perfectly happy with XP PRO. But, There isn't a PC or Laptop on the market today in my area that isn't loaded with VISTA. The sales manager at Office Depot even told me they were ordered to pull everything with XP and to return it to the manufactuer. My box even had a big sticker on it that said DO NOT SALE UNTILL JANUARY 2007. I know for sure that windows firewall isn't running but it came preloaded with Mcafee antivirus (which i will uninstall and replace soon with AVG). When i plug in my AX i get a connection notification and it gives me a message (which i can't quote right now because i'm at work and don't have my laptop) but WMDC won't see my AX. I did however uninstall WMDC and download the current version from micro(MONOPOLY)soft. I'll have to keep at it though because my current plan is to do away with my 3 desktops and just have 2 laptops(I bought 2 laptops from Office Depot for $649.00 each it was too good a deal to pass up) and my AX.

Good deal Dude, TO flag some things, what version of office do you have? if you got PC with nothing else installed create partnership with ax FIRST. As far as I can find WMDC and ax should be fine with clean install of vista. This might seem a funny question but did you get a new laptop with upgraded software?

I don't have office installed yet. It only has the trial version which i haven't activated and probably won't. I was going to try and install my copy of Office XP Pro. As for upgraded software i'm not really sure if it's the latest and greatest. I know for sure that i've been online with it for a pretty decent amount of time and MS hasn't updated yet(even when i went to the microsoft webpage to download WMDC). It came with Vista Home Premium. The main problem right now is that WMDC doesn't see my AX at all, but the computer does see that something is connected when i plug my USB cable in. I'll have to get the exact message it gives tonight after work maybe that will help solve my problem.

I tried this but it didn't work( I got this off the WMDC troubleshooting guide on Microsoft.com).
My device is not able to connect. There are several cases that may prevent your device from connecting:
If Windows Live OneCare is installed on your machine, it may be blocking the device connectivity. Please click here for the steps to configure OneCare to allow the device to connect.
The driver installation may not have completed successfully. If you think this may be the case, follow these steps:
Keep your device connected
From the desktop, go to Start > Start Search
Enter "Device Manager" or "devmgmt.msc" to launch the Device Manager window
Look under the "Network adapters" node for "Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter". If this is not present, skip to step 5. Otherwise, right-click "Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter" and choose to "Uninstall"
(This is on when i have "enable advanced network functionality" checked, but not the "Microsoft USB Sync".)
Look under the "Mobile Devices" node for "Microsoft USB Sync". If this is not present, skip to step 6. Otherwise, right-click "Microsoft USB Sync" and choose to "Uninstall"
(This is on when i have "enable advanced network functionality" unchecked this is on. but not "Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter".)
(I get "Dell Axim USB Sync" instead.)
Disconnect and reconnect your device. Your device driver will re-install and WMDC will launch.
For more information on connectivity-related problems, see the ActiveSync USB Connection Troubleshooting Guide.
Does anyone think it could be the USB Sync/Charge cable i'm using?

It could very well be the cable, to verify try using another cable/cradle or use the current cable on another system.

Easier said then done.
I'll have to buy another cable then because no one that i know has an AX. and my cradle is still broken. I guess i'll try and fix it again to see it that solves the problem.

Surely you have a second computer or know someone with a computer? Someone that will let you install AS and connect to test? What do you mean 'fix it again', was the cable broken before?
