Messaging Vanishes ---- Poof!
Hello all,
You've seen my posts as I've been having the darndest time trying to get my 51v to conect to my computers via USB. I can sync with the IR port though and plan of resolving the USB issue soon I hope. But that's another story.
NEW PROBLEM! Suddenly after 10 months or so of trouble free (ActiveSync excepted) operation, suddenly "Messaging" has disappeared from my 51v. Selecting it from the Start menu has no effect.
I really don't recall if a "Messaging" icon was on the Programs page, but there is no sign of it anywhere on my 51v now.
Has anyone out there ever had this happen? Does anyone know if "Messaging" can be re-installed, and if so where one might find it? I sure did enjoy getting my email on the fly.
Thanks,
Fux

Messaging is Pocket Outlook. Can you launch Outlook on the Axim? A hard reset will reset everything to default, but if it's a shortcut issue you can resolve it in File Explorer by browsing to the Start Menu folder.

Can not find launch or even find Outlook! As I mentioned I have done a hard Reset, but Messaging (and by default I suppose) Outlook are not there. I do have a calander and contacts if an analogy to PC's has any value. File Explorer finds nothing with the names: Outlook, Pocket Outlook, or Messaging. Search finds only "Help" entries for Outlook. Hmmmmm? It's as if my Avatar finished his cigarette and had Outlook abducted!

The only way to reinstall a factory application is to hard reset.

Well, as I said, I did a hard reset with no effect on missing messaging. You say messaging is in Pocket Outlook. On the PC Outlook is mail(Messaging) and Calendar and Contacts. Since I still have calendar and contacts but no messaging I assume that these 3 functions are isolated from one another in Pocket Outlook? Regardless, I infer from what you say that I am in an unrecoverable situation then?

Can you tell me what process you used to hard reset? Was a screen alignment involved?

Yes I can Mahstah,
Simultaneously depress reset and power. Release reset and hold power until Dell meatball appears. Release power. Am queried to press one of the hard buttons to restore factory settings, another to not (Sorry, handbbok not around and I don't remember the details of the exact keys involved ~ a week removed). I pressed the one for restore. Relatively long reboot with a screen aliignment session then the aggravating Cut and Paste exercise. At that point I did do a complete system restore. But, that back up was from about two weeks earlier, and most notably about 12 days before Messaging disappeared. Messaging was present and working when I made the backup (of a fully functiong system I was happy with). Again, USB ActiveSync excepted.
It's like an x-files. Can't make sense of anything.

Hi Pedah,
I did as you suggested. Following responses:
To MSN Messenger - NOTHING
To MSN Hotmail - NOTHING
To Compose Hotmail - NOTHING
To MSN Mobile Home - Browser opens and I am taken there.
To MSN Pocket Help - MSN Pocket Help page opens.
Mean anything to you? To Mahstah? To Anyone?
Best Regards,
Fux

I would try reinstalling the OS from a fresh download instead of via hard reset (which you obviously did correctly). The regular Dell ROM installer probably won't allow you to install the same version as is loaded on the unit. It might be worth a try since the alternative is extensive. The alternative ROM flashing method is from the SD slot and is well-documented on AximSite here.
If you hard reset and Pocket Outlook still doesn't exist, my guess is that the ROM image of the OS stored in the hidden section of system ROM is corrupted. If it's bad sectors, you might be screwed. If it's bad data in the OS image, you can be saved.
