Microsoft Garbage
Can not get Dell X51V to sync with Outlook 2007. Brand new Dell Axim only
two days old. Nothing installed but Outlook Business Contact manager for
PPC.
Deleted and reinstalled WMDC version 6.0.6783.
Added ports to Windows Firewall Exceptions as suggested in WMDC
troubleshooting
Added exception in One Care Firewall Settings as explained in this Newsgroup
Tried shutting off firewall alltogether
Went to "serial mode" on PDA with no luck. WMDC will install proper driver
for either config and recognize PDA with same result.
WMDC will connect and recognize PDA correctly and will let me install
programs and browse CF card, but can NOT sync at all.
Error in Sync Center - Active Sync encountered an error on the Desktop
Also have installed Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2007 and the PPC
Version - I get error "unexpected error opening the Business Contact Manager
store." when I check the option to sync with it.
I also get a pop up error from WMDC saying:
"Synchronization cannot be started because you are not able to log on to the
network and access information. Restart your desktop computer and
synchronize again. If the problem persists, contact your network admin."
I have not tried to uninstall Live One Care but have heard this program
causes problems..
Patiently waiting to get my Outlook data onto my new PPC.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Let's see, I have a brand new Dell Axim X51V with MICROSOFT WINDOWS MOBILE 5
on it and a desktop with MICROSOFT VISTA ULTIMATE on it and using MICROSOFT
WINDOWS MOBILE DEVICE CENTER will not sync with MICROSOFT OFFICE 2007
OUTLOOK at all. I have searched several forums, called tech support at Dell
and Microsoft, opened ports on firewalls, added programs as exceptions,
reinstalled operating systems, Office, WMDC all with the same result. These
MICROSOFT PRODUCTS DO NOT SUCCESSFULLY WORK TOGETHER.
No wonder Dell is jumping ship and getting out of the PPC market. MICROSOFT
could not find their ass with both hands.
I would venture to guess that NOBODY here can get the above products to work
together as they are supposed to, reliabily and without any problems. If
you can - please chime in here.
It is pretty unbelievable that MICROSOFT can not get their own products to
work together, and that so many people are having such problems with
synching Outlook 2007 and Vista.
Throw the PPC's in the garbage and get a small notepad and a pen. Works
great and the worst that can happen is the pen runs out of ink. No tech
support required, works EVERY time.
After this whole ordeal, If I could "Quit" on Microsoft and never buy or
support their products again I would but how is a person going to do this?
Instead, I simply have to give up the use of a PPC until MICROSOFT can
figure this out and make their products work together. Oh, I will still
have to make the paymets on my new Axim, even though it will not work as
advertised. My old X5 was fine, but it has MICROSOFT PPC 2003 on it and the
new MICROSOFT WMDC does not support their own products and said I needed a
PPC with WM5 or newer on it to work with MICROSOFT VISTA. I bought VISTA,
OFFICE 2007, WMDC latest release and a new PPC with WM5 on it and I still
can not sync with all the latest Microsoft products freshly installed,
thousands of dollars later. Good news for MICROSOFT though, they made a
bunch of money and thats what counts to them, not having software that works
with it's own.
Thanks to all on this site who have dilligently tried to help so many others
like myself, to no avail. Hopefully someday my new PPC will work before it
becomes extinct as well.
Just don't forget - We are all at the mercy of the MICROSOFT CORPORATION for
a solution here...

I too am running Vista Ultimate, WMDC 6.0.6783, and Office 2007. Haven't had a sync problem yet. While your rant about MS is welcome and necessary at times, there is a logical process by which we should be able to get you syncing. It could be a Dell problem and not a MS problem at all- Dell USB Vista drivers, Dell BIOS issue, third party programs, external hardware such as a USB hub- then again you may be correct and it could be a MS problem with your exact combo of hardware.
For starters, have you tried syncing with another computer to determine if the problem exists on the PDA side or on the desktop?

We're all bunnies and MS are running tests, don't worry though if you break out in a rash Bill will have the antidote[in a year or three]LOL.
Anyway welcome, Spa there are no problems only opportunities, I got a new ax recently and it was not up to date, there seems to be a bit of a lag with the factory and the software updates and depending on where you got your ax [which reseller etc.] your axim could be well out of date, check rom version. Thanks for the great rave, "I feel for you ,Mate"
ps. I just found this don't know if it will be helpful. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...ivesync45.mspx
I considered updating to Vista and then I thought MS has done so much work on XP that I wouldn't, the new stuff always gets updated cause they ship it underdone and hope that error reporting will find for them the areas that they have to work on.

AS does not work with Vista. I got the PPC from Dell and it has A12 on it. Nothing else added. I can create a doc on the PPC and sync it back to the desktop but can not get it to sync with Outlook 2007. I get an error message "Synchronization cannot be started because you are not able to log on to the
network and access information. Restart your desktop computer and
synchronize again. If the problem persists, contact your network admin."
Dock is plugged directly into the MB, not into a hub.
Again, WMDC will "mount" the PPC and allow me to browse the CF card, synch docs and music but can not connect to Outlook...

Simple question, who set up your network, do you have full permissions on your network? Have you tried to disable advanced network functionality in USB settings on axim?
If advanced network functionality is enabled, axim shows up as a new network connection, possibly, your auto network setup is requirihg a pre-enterd saved password in outlook. Conjecture.
One more thing did you upgrade or clean install?

Network? I have NO network. Yes, tried the USB setting on the axim, same result, same error. I think the "network" WMDC is referring to is the connection to Outlook, in my opinion, as I can sync documents and view the SD card contents and such.
Vista was a complete clean install, no upgrade.

Historically, your error message pertains to an Outlook problem. See here (Smart Computing) and here (MSDN blog) for examples. That error message likely crossed over from XP/AS/O2K3 to VU/WMDC/O2K7.
There are a couple different solutions, check the links and try the suggestions. I'd be interested in how they work, please post back results. Thanks!

Edit: What Pedah was talking about is the setting on the Axim in Settings-->Connections-->USB to PC. It is called "enable advanced network functionality" and it can change the PDA from a virtual network connection to a standard serial connection. No more firewall/network issues. Have you tried that?

Also there is lots to say that onecare is very temperamental with WMDC,
http://www.tutorials-se.com/activesync/WMDC-Vista/
and it may only be something real small and overlooked in the settings that is stopping you, but the last post offers something of a real solution, and added a couple of links pertaining to the same issue, worth exploring

I missed in your first post

sorry to frustrate you with dross. I also think that the network that the error message refers to is ax connection, is ax password protected or just turn on?
Mahstahs right, I didn't explain the serial thing very well, did I!

Have you uninstall ed Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2007 and tried to sync with out it.?
I'm not using 2007 but using 2003 with vista and works fine only problem I'm having is syncing files I get an error so I'm trying out mobsync. So far working good.
You might want to call dell support and or Microsoft support.

Too true, get rid of any extra programs and see if you can sync
