Well, I finally got it to sync! It seems there was an installation issue with Outlook 2007. I ran the new Office Diagnostic Tool which is located in the Help menu on Outlook and after about 15 minutes, it said out of all the tests it found and fixed one problem, so I thought I would try the sync again, not expecting any success and low and behold - It worked! I just had contacts selected so I then enabled all the other sync options including One Note, many email folders, Business Contact Manager, Mobile Favorites, Mobile Docs, Notes, Tasks, Calendar...

It is syncing now but looks like it is working, I will post back when it is complete and I can verify the data integerity.

It is odd however, that there was an installation problem when Vista was a clean install immediately followed by a clean install of Office 2007. My Outlook data was then imported into the newly created .pst file created by Outlook. Not sure why there was a installation problem here. I had even uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2007 to try to fix the problem. Maybe there is a bug in the installation code of Office 2007 and the Office Diagnostics code catches this but only if the program is run.

One Care is on and the port allowances and program exceptions have been applied as advised elsewhere on this and other forums.

The tip for the solution came from www.aximusers.com at
Microsoft Garbage

And, humbly said - Thanks Microsoft for providing a diagnostic tool that solved the issue of my various recommended MS software products not working together.

Also, a big thanks to all on this site who have listened, agreed and disagreed and most importantly helped to find a solution!

Followed this at two locations, one where it caused heaps of off topic stuff, I'm glad you found the answer, and thankyou for helping to prepare me for my vista experience, if ever XP support is withdrawn. LOL.

Thumbs up

I am pleased to report that everything is working as it should!

After a successful sync of everything from all my outlook data including notes, tasks, contacts and calendar, I was able to also sync my email including selecting the particular mail folders I wanted included from my .pst file.

After the successful sync I also loaded all the apps that came with my Axim including the Bluetooth Dell GPS system, which works pretty good. I have several other GPS systems - some that are factory installed on our Goldwing, our vehicles and also a Garmin Nuvi 660 in my wife's car. The Dell system is pretty user friendly and connects to the receiver pretty painlessly. The interface works pretty good too and so far my only complaints are that it does not state the name of upcomming crossroads as my other systems do and you can only zoom out to a 10 mile pan view.

I also received a Dell BT keyboard and got it installed and working. It works pretty good and is a pretty compact unit. I couldnt figure it out on my own and had to read the manual on CD to get it to link up as you have to press a key sequence on the keyboard to get it to be discoverable by BT.

Some other games were also installed and worked perfectly.

After using the Axim yesterday and installing all the software and actually being able to use the unit I was most pleased. I just now put it on the cradle and it Synched right up as we all hope it would do, without any problems.

Thanks again for the solutions and suggestions and it does appear there are several others with the exact same problem and a "Sticky" might be in order here for the continued error message I kept receiving, and the solution I found. Again, I had uninstalled and reinstalled Outlook 2007 a couple of times with the same result but after running the Office Diagnostics program, the problem was resolved and the sync performed as it should.

Maybe now I will thow away that small notebook and pen!

Thanks again!

Not running an Axim but came across your forum in a deperate search for an answer to the sync problem I am having with WMDC. Running WMDC 6, Vista Ultimate, Outlook 2007, Windows Mobile 5 on a T-Mobile MDA. Sync'd fine on an XP Machine running ActiveSync 4.5 and Outlook 2007. All the same errors mentioned above: "Synchronization cannot be started because you are not able to log on to the network and access information. Restart your desktop computer and synchronize again. If the problem persists, contact your network admin" , and "ActiveSync encountered a problem on the desktop." (note that notwithstanding this last, I am using WMDC 6, NOT ActiveSync!)

Thanks, Scott

Welcome Scott, the fix in this thread is fairly general and is PC side, give it a try and get back, although this site is devoted to Ax if a fix here helps you it adds to the Knowledge base.

OOPS....I hadn't read to page two....it seems that this solution may have worked after all...LOL....but I'll keep it for anyone having isssues with 2003.....SORRY....

This feature may not even be available in Outlook 07...but I was having tons of problems with 03 and I went under help and selected "detect and repair" this fixed the problem and I was able to sync without incident ever since.

Although this doesn't specifically address your current issue it may provide you with a very simple solution. I had read post after post concerning the error I was getting and NO solution worked...I was considering uninstalling and reinstalling everything and a hard reset....I stumbled on the dectect and repair option by accident on my own (never mentioned in any posts that I read) and it worked without all the hassle.

You may want to see if you can do something similar.

Take care and good luck....every electronic "toy" that uses computers in any way has issues and there's the ever present fun of getting them to work corrcetly and consistantly.
