SD card speed question

Hi all!

In a week I will receive my X51v!!! I finaly did the big step from my Palm to PocketPc!

Here is my question.

I will buy a 2Go SD card. There are speed diffirences from one to another... but does it need a speciel device to read at fast speed? The axim will read those?

Which is the fastest?

Check elsewhere on this forum but the AXIM is limited in it's read/write speed from these cards by the internal bus. Can't recall the max speeds (? 2MB/s.) Don't forget that 'high speed' cards usually refer to the write speed of the cards. This is obviously only useful if your apps do a lot of writing.

Devices like digital cameras generally benefit from these higher speed (writing) cards.

My AXIM is used for mostly reading from these cards (as will most peoples). In particular I have topological GPS maps on them. These are bitmaps (not vector) and I can't say that I notice much difference in loading speeds from either my newest 2GB SD card or my very old 512Mb SD card (no-name).

The Axim can utilize a card of about 50x to its fullest potential. Don't get less than 50x, but you don't need a 150x card. Although I use one. :/

Others have made the point that if you transfer data onto or off the card with a card reader outside the Axim, then the card's speed WILL make a difference in that process, but not in the device itself as described above.

Honestly too much common sense going on here, I'm gonna get the biggest,fastest and cheapest and it will eventually be superceded by my technology, But you have to have the latest, DON"T YOU. lol

I got my Axim 51v yesterday... and what a baby! Jumping from my M505 to the 51v... a little diffence!

I too have a Palm M505. There isn't any comparison with the X51v.

Icannot for the life of me, find the official specs for axim R/RW speeds I must be using wrong search terms. How much are we being taken in by consumer hype?
