Brightness on Dell AximX51v
Hi everyone I'm back again with what I hope is an easy problrm for all you experts to solve. It regards Brightness under Settings on the X51v. On battery power I would like to dim if device is idle for more than 3 minutes. I set it for three minutes but it keeps changing back to 15 seconds like it has a mind of its own. I have tried 30 seconds, 1 min, 3 min, 5 min & 15 min, all with the same result--it resets to 15 seconds. Right now I have it unchecked so it doesn't dim at all on battery power. I recall seeing this problem mentioned somewhere else but I couldn't find the thread. I've done a hard rest and soft reset with negative results. Any help regarding this matter would be appreciated. I've only had this X51v for two days. It's a new replacement (not refurbished) for Axim X51v I was having problems with.

The only solution I know of to this problem is to set it to never dim. It could be related to using restore software- do you use any software to restore the system after a hard reset?

Brightness on Dell
It could be the restore function. I used the built-in backup/restore after hard reset. I have just bought Sph Backup so maybe that will resolve the problem, I'm planning to backup daily and keep the three latest back-ups on file. If you think daily back-ups and 3/file are too much, let me know. I'm not so sure I really need daily backups. It's not my intention to keep hard resetting, only if absolutely necessary.

hmmm -- after reading your post, I also checked the setting to dim the screen -- selected 1 minute, 3 minutes, etc, and after checking that box, the screen dims after 15 seconds no matter what I select.
what a PITA -- so I just unchecked the box. Im just as happy without the dim feature - just have it set to turn off if not used after 3 or 5 minutes.
I've not installed any aftermarket software for backup etc.
don't know why it's doing that -
could my Omega One Battery Pack Pro be interfering?

I've been watching this thread with interest, because mine has done exactly the same since day one, out of the box. ROM A12, all the latest stuff as far as I can see, and still this function didn't work. I've always just left it unticked too.
Maybe they'll fix it if there's ever an A13.

Maybe it's connected to power settings
I don't have a problem with dimming, but in power I have selected the maximum times for power down "if device is idle for (options:15 seconds etc) turn off. set everything for max in power and and see if dimming settings are maitained

Funny my Axim is brand new and I have the same brightness issue. I called Dell and they fixed it right away. They are shipping me a new axim. Nothing like taking the easy way out. I am sure I will have the same problem with the new one. I wonder how much lower the price of our Axims would be if Dell's techs would work at the problem as opposed to taking the easy way and replacing it.

yeah - that's GOT to be a software issue (or firmware). Can't believe that this would be any different on a brand new axim - but please let us know how it works out. I'll stay tuned

um... Mines set at 3 minutes and that's where it stays!
I do have SPB Pocket Plus, but I can't see how it would stop the issue. I was trying to think back to before SPB and I don't recall it changing on me.
UM... I guess I can't help. Does anyone else have Pocket Plus.
