Must battery cover be on to power up?

My x51 will not power on. I went online to Dell support and walked through possible solutions with no luck, so they sent me a refurbished x51. That one won't power up either. Both x51's will charge to full green light. I am trying to figure out: Is it my charger? Or, is it the fact my battery cover is MIA? The latter doesn't seem logical to me, but I wanted to get some opinions before I take any next steps. Maybe the cover is necessary to power up?? [BTW, I do have the battery lock in the on position when I attempt to turn it on.]

Yes it would seem to need the battery cover.
There is a little switch on the left locking slot needs to be depressed.

You can fake out the Axim by putting something onto the switch. See this thread for instructions and a pic.

I don't know how I misplaced the cover. I don't even recall taking it off the Axim (chaotic Fall semester,a blur now).
When Dell sent me the refurb, just like Burlroad (see below) several months ago, they sent it without a battery cover or stylus.

You are not the only one who has lost the battery cover. We actually sell these on our web site because so many people lose them.
