Turning on the Dell for the first time

When you first get the Axim out of the box in the beginning, it says to let the battery charge for 8 hours before using the product. Is it possible to use the Axim in the beginning if it is in the charger while you are doing everything?

You can use it, just make sure you allow it to fully charge (and then some) before removing it from the cradle on its first charge.

More questions from the beginning start-up

As well as can you use Bluetooth and Wi-Fi right out of the box with a connection of the like, or do you need to buy a card first in order for them to work? Also, do I need to change anything on the system besides possibly buying a Pocket Informant? As well as, in the Compact Flash port, for buying a GPS receiver to use, what would you recomment. A TomTom? I'm not sure how it works, if it is just you put the card piece in and then you need a program or something to make it work. Thanks for your time.

If you have a x51, the Bluetooth will work straight out of the box. Only the X51 -520 or x51v have WiFi built in . If you have one of these, no additional hardware or cards are needed. If you have a x50/x51 - 416mHz, then you will need to buy a WiFi card.

Otherwize they will work immediately.

TomTom do not sell a compact flash GPS system. I would recommend a Bluetooth one for your use. These you can get for good prices of Ebay. OR as you suggest, you can buy a kit from TomTom which includes a BT GPS receiver and the needed software. In this case, you get everything you need in the box to be up and running.

You might want to seriously take a look at the dedicated GPS devices now. Garmin Nuvi 350 is what I'm using - fits in my pocket. Just incredibly easy to use - far more simple than trying to make your Axim function as a GPS. Prices keep falling. And a dedicated GPS device like Garmin has all touchscreen controls that you can press with your finger - not requiring you to use a stylus while driving.
