How to prevent hard reset?
Hi,
Is there any way to prevent hard reset once the main battery is dead?
I have the Axim51v, and I'm not using it very often - I'm using it especially for GPS.
After a week of not using it (It is not in the charger) it makes hard reset and all the data is gone.
Is there any solution for it? Do I need to keep it in the charger all the time?
Thanks for your assistance,
Guyav99.

Are you sure you have the X51v? The X51 should never hard reset as a result of power loss, the data is preserved in ROM which does not require power to store data. It would require a soft reset if you lost power but not a hard reset or data loss. From http://www.mobiletechreview.com/edit...s-mobile-5.htm :
"Windows Mobile 5 sports many new features and enhancements making it a very worthwhile upgrade. Perhaps the most important feature that everyone will love- from PDA novices to hardcore PDA devotees, is persistent memory. Your data won't be lost if the battery runs completely dry-- a new concept for Pocket PCs, and an old one for MS Smartphones and some Palm brand PDAs such as the LifeDrive and Treo 650. This memory architecture more closely resembles PCs: RAM is used for running programs and not for storage. Your data and all OS files are stored in Flash ROM which doesn't require power to preserve its contents."
If your X51v is losing data as a result of power loss you might have a faulty unit. Have you updated to ROM version A12?

Yes, I am sure I have the Axim51v and I have a friend who has the same problem.
How do I check the ROM version? I never updated it.
Thanks,

Start-->Settings-->System-->System Information
You can download A12 from Dell's site here.

I just checked and I have Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition
Can I do the update to A12?
If not, is there any other update I can do?
Thanks again,

Are you purposefully wasting my time or are you truly incapable of identifying your model?

PS- If you aren't pulling my chain, you need to replace your backup battery, something the X51v lacks. If you have WM2K3SE you have an X3xx series Axim. See Aximsite for a photo tutorial on replacing the backup battery.

Dear Mahstah,
My apology for this entire thing.
My model is X50V (And not X51V as I said).
My OS is Windoes Mobile 2003 and my ROM version is A02.
If you still have some time, I would appreciate if you could help me here.
Sorry for the confusion,
Guyav99.

That's OK, I felt like I was led up a wrong path intentionally by a joker and hadn't had coffee yet so I went off a little. The X50v does have a backup battery, you can buy one here.

However, before spending your money you should try updating your ROM to A05 to see if it fixes the problem.

Good luck and post back if you have any problems.
