Cant connect to others WiFi

OK, still new to the PDA thing but me and my partner have had our Axim X51v's for about 2 weeks now. I am hooked and we love these things. I am going to attempt to explain my problem to the best of my ability. We have a small peer to peer network set up in the office with WiFi broadcasting. i have no problems connecting and doing whatever i want connected to my office WiFi. The problem arises when i try another hotspot. i have tried both of our local libraries and it says it is connected but there is no surfing allowed. I have also tried two of our rest areas wich advertise FREE Wifi. again connect with good signal but no surfing. it tells me to check my settings. i have and they are the same settings that allow me to connect at my office with no problem. at this point i am in over my head. my partner has connected and surfed at the rest areas a couple of times but sometimes he gets the same problem. Please help with what we may be doing wrong. it sounds similar to "am i retarded's" post but i am not sure.

Another question: i scheduled a wireless cable modem to be hooked up at my home to connect to the internet with. i dont plan on setting up a computer at all as a network. just broadcast WiFi in my house to use as a hotspot. i will probably also use my laptop there spareingly. will this work? i am anticipating the same problem i am having above and want to resolve this beforehand.

thanks in advance for input. oh ya these (2) are new with A12 currently. i dont know if that matters.

I also am new to the wifi network at home. I was able to connect to the internet and configure to get email on the axim. At other hotspots sometimes I connect and other times not. I get confused in the settings with the option is connection to work or to the internet

Hi folks-

WiFi should always work at hotspots unless
1) you need a key or to pay for the service
2) they broadcast in 802.11g only, not mixed or b

I have yet to find a hotspot where the X51v will not connect. For the work/internet setting, if one doesn't work try the other but you shouldn't normally need to change it.

I have internet wifi at home and it works a charm with my axim. you can even play games or read whilst on the toilet.
