Program Bar Icon Repair

The program bar has a couple of dead shortcuts, one of which is for Notes. Instead of the usual icon, it's the WM5 broken icon symbol, and tapping on it brings up the following error message:

Error opening the shortcut or locating the target filename.

Tapping & holding the icon brings up the following:

Notes

\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Notes.lnk

So, how do I go about setting the properties or changing the icons on the program bar? Changing the options on the Today screen doesn't seem to change anything.

Are you talking about a Today screen program bar or a start menu programs window? If it's the Today screen is it Pocket Plus, and if it's the Start-->Programs window you should recreate the shortcut using File Explorer.

It's the Today screen program bar, not the Start-->Programs menu.

What you have is a shortcut (today screen) pointing to a shortcut (start menu). This works unless you move or delete the parent (start menu) shortcut. Recreate the start menu shortcut your today screen shortcut is trying to link to. You can do this from File Explorer by copying the file \Windows\notetake.lnk and pasting a shortcut into \Windows\Start Menu\Programs, then renaming notetake.lnk in the start menu shortcut to Notes.lnk.

What you end up with is your today screen shortcut having its parent shortcut at \Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Notes.lnk exist again.
