Does Dell USB Cable for x51v work?

Hi everyone,
This is probably an issue others have seen before.
I purchased a USB cable directly from Dell for my x51v. The cable showed the following issues:
- When connected the display keeps flickering (changing between hi and low brightness). The reason seems to be Axim cannot decide if a power connection is established. The power botton is Orange but the icon on display keeps swithching between power and battery (and hence the brightness as the default bightness for power and battery are different).

- If a long sync is made, chances are the connection drops in between.

I am using latest ROM version and full/cold reset doesn't help.

I also spent a lot of time with Dell Tech support, they replaced the cable and then even the Axim itself but none helped

The cable doesn't even charge if the device is off. (I left it off but connected to USB port on my computer but the battery level didn't change.

Any suggestions? Should I just return the cable and give up on it and go with another cable product that others have found them working? Which one would that be?

I have a few hotsync cabels, not from Dell, but all work.

First, the flashing display. This is common and in my experience occures if the battery power is below (I think) approx 60%. The USB is not supplying sufficient power to charge and power the Axim and this causes the display to flash as you describe. Once the power in the battery is above approx 60%, this flashing stops.

I do not know if Dell sell a Hotsync cable for the X51, I thought they only supplied standard cables in which case these will not charge your axim at all. You need to check on what you have received.

With a true Hotsync cable, the axim will be charged even if it is "switched off". It may be that you need to buy a 3rd party Hotsync cable to do the job. In my experience, most of the ones sold via Ebay work well and are a good price.

One thing, you mention the cable did not charge when the Axim was switched off, I assume that the PC was still switched on so that the USB port had power. ?

Don't forget - if your power is really low it requires around 2Amps to charge the AXIM X51v - well beyond the capability of your PC USB connection - however I use a 3rd party USB to AXIM cable to charge my X51v in the car with either one of the 12V-USB adapderst or (more usually) my ARKON powered cradle. It works very well.

I got my cable from ebay for 5.00$. The axim does need to be above 60% battery for a synch to take place, but I recharge my axim during the day using the usb port from my laptop. Return your cable and try a 3rd party one, if once your axim is charged you still can't connect .
