Hi , I'm the owner of new dell axim x51v and it works with out any problems, I did have a problem in the beginnig , I called tech support of SYSON company , I had a chance to talk to guy his name is Keith Geiser . We tryed to go over the steps how to make that gps CF card work on dell .
ok so here is the solutions for that :

her is the link which you should read :::http://www.looket.com/eng/cs/cfmem_gps.php
Dell Axim needs to open port COM 4
then you have to download software called winfast navigator 1.0
this software let you switch between SIRF and NEMW mode for GPS
The original software which comes with GPS doesn't work to switch those modes , just follow the link which I gave and you should be fine .

    thanks to Keith Geieser :-)

For your information, below is the brief technical report.
We have tested with an HP and Dell PDA and can see problems which occur only under Windows Mobile 5 o/s. Our investigations show the cause of these problems to be the ROM image in the PDA. (Supplied by HP and Dell). The BIOS in the ROM has to set up the processor (XSCALE) IO bus timings. The CF/PCMCIA standard states that the IO read strobe should be 165ns. When running WM5, the HP (PXA270 416MHz) read strobe is only 125ns wide We can show the same problem on the Dell but only when running WM5.
Because of the nature of the fault, some cards and some operations will work, but under some special conditions the problem becomes apparent and the card stops working.
We have informed both Dell and HP of the problem and requested a ROM update. Investigating on the Internet Newsgroups, we have found that apparently many customers using the Dell have had problems with their CF slot after upgrading to Windows Mobile 5.
