Smile Help! - car battery charger problem

Hi I am new member.
I just got new axim 51v. I also got new car battery chager for axim 51v.
When I plug charger in the screen is blink(bright-in power, dim-on battery) and pda is not getting charge. So I called company where I bought charger and they send me a new one. But I am still seeing same problem. I wasn't sure problem is car charger or pda it self. Is anyone know problem with car charger and axim 51v?? Any info will appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Some car chargers can only charge the Axim if the Axim is turned off. Others can charge and be used at the same time. I bought one on ebay and can run TomTom for hours but the battery doesn't charge while the unit is turned on. It is related to the wattage output from most car chargers. See this thread (thanks mbloof) for more info.

Mine acts same way when I have WiFi on. I find that it can handle the low wattage when the X51v is set for CPU speed as Normal instead of high or auto.

As others are indicating, most of the chargers may not put out enough voltage or current to charge unit while on. I am using a 1000mA 5.5 v that works pretty good. I am running Garmin GPS 10 software with Blue Tooth and it charge pretty quickly while running these programs and display about half bright.

Yes, looks like pda is getting charge if power is off but it doesn't when power is on (looks like less power is coming out from car charger). Then what is good for charger if you cannot charge when power is on, using gps?? Anyone know any car charger can charge Axim x51v while power is on??

Thanks

Look for 5.5v, 1000mA charger. Mine works great. Just search on the Internet for this device.

Guys I tried 2 car charger....waste of money.
I bought a power inverter on ebay for 5 bucks and I use my original Dell charger in the car. The power inverter gives you a 110v out of ur cig lighter....easy and secure!

A Nokia car charger for a li-ion battery works but you need to fit a different plug or make an adapter

I seem to remember somewhere that a nearly fully discharged AXIM X51 battery can take nearly 2A of current during the initial charging period. this rapidly diminishes as the battery reaches fully charged. I have an ARKON mount for my X51v and this clealy states that it is able to supply sufficient power to charge the battery from 'dead'. I also use my old iPaq 3660 car charger - this seems to work as well - but it has a label on it stating 5V 2A also.
