Speeding up WiFi Connection?

Anybody here know how to speed up the WiFi network connection on X51v?

It connects fine but it transfers files to my PC or opens web pages painfully slow.

There aren't any other programs running. Just the File Manager when copying or Internet Explorer when on the Web.

I am wondering if my X51v actually has issues. It has always been this way from day one. Just starting to wonder if it is defective or if there are settings I am overlooking.

When copying a large file (~500MB) to the X51v from the laptop using just the wireless it takes several hours (maybe 7 or 8). This is connecting to the WiFi router and not directly to the laptop. When copying from the X51v to the laptop it is less than an hour. I am very satisfied with this speed (going to the laptop), but I don't have much of a need copying that way.

It is much much faster just pulling the card out and copying files using a card reader, but I would like to take advantage of the wireless if it were to work at a reasonable rate.

I find on Cnet's bandwidth test that my Axim gets the same internet speeds whether cabled or wireless, it maxed out for me around 600 Kb/s. My wired desktop and wireless laptop both get 3-6 Mb/s. It appears to be a slowdown in the Axim's processor or networking chipset. This is consistent with the transfer rate speeds reported with storage cards, even high speed ones, usually around 1 Mb/s give or take.

I have to agree with Skata, it's much faster to use a USB 2.0 card reader to xfer large files to the Axim.

Thanks for your input, Mahstah. I just ran a bandwidth test on my laptop and on the PDA. I am using DSL so I am not expecting as high results as yours. I am at 1.2 Mb/s on laptop and 565 Kb/s on PDA.

I am satisfied if that is all that is to be expected from this device. I was just concerned if it had a problem If it did, I wanted to get it replaced while still under warranty.

My problem with copying files from laptop using WiFi seems to be resolved with A12. Running more like I expect it now.

I think they did a lot more than update just the CF card performance. The wireless goes twice as fast now.

My new Axim came with A11 on it. Are you saying that if I update to A12 ROM I will see an increase in the speed that my Internet Explorer operates when using WiFi? You will have to excuse my ignorance, I'm still learning. What is a ROM update and how do you accomplish it? Is there a risk involved? Is this something from Dell or is this from somewhere else? I want to keep the equipment running in top condition but don't want to risk screwing it up. Thanks ;-)
