Can't load device driver
Long story short, I decided to hard reset my device and start loading stuff from scratch. This seemed to work ok - I was reloading programs - when all of a sudden, data transfer locked up. I kept playing around with it, and synch kept working then bombing. Finally, I uninstalled ActiveSynch, and reinstalled it fresh.
Now when I connect the pocket pc to the cradle, Windows detects it as a new hardware device, and tries to load a driver. But it can't find a driver to load. Obviously, Activesynch can't find the device.
So now what? I tried resetting everything I know on both my laptop and the PPC, I'm at a loss. This worked fine before.

What error are you getting? Is it the same as these users got? Your answer may be there.

Well, ultimately, this is my problem. Windows can't find a device driver for the PPC. An x51v.
Every time I remove and replace the PPC from the cradle, it tries to add it again, and updates the number after the device. (For example, it says #5 in the photo).

Are you getting an error message? If so, what?
I'd delete profles from both desktop and PPC ActiveSync. Good job on the pic insertion, did you use the attach wrappers?
To delete profiles, on the desktop from ActiveSync go to File-->Delete Mobile Device when your Axim is uncradled. Delete them all if there are multiples. On the Axim, go to Start-->ActiveSync-->Menu-->Options and delete all PPCs listed. Then try the sync again. You'll have to create a new partnership on the desktop. Let us know how it works out.

Thanks for the info. I looked at the Axim before I left for work this morning - it had no profiles since I did the hard reset last and haven't actually connected again since then.
I'll have to look at ActiveSync tonight when I get home, and see if a the profiles there have persisted.
I looked at the link you posted above. My problem initially seems a little different. It seems he had a problem with the USB driver, not the Axim driver. But as the conversation goes on, it seems he had the same trouble, and then ended up reloading Windows to fix it. That would stink, but it may come down to that eventually if I can't fix this.
I might also check if XP has a "restore point", and see if that helps at all. I don't usually trust that technology, but what the heck, it's not working anyway, right?
