TomTom 5.21 - Can't find maps?

I'm a complete newbie to this, so please be patient with me. I installed TomTom 5.21 on my x51v. That seems to have gone well. I then installed a 2GB SD card, also went well. Then I copied 2 map folders to the SD card, Pennsylvania-Map, and NY_PA_NJ_DE_DC_MD-Map.

I'm assuming I put the map files/folders in the wrong place or something like that. What am I doing wrong here? Why can't TomTom see them?

You need to install the maps from the CDs using the TomTom setup program. I don't think manually copying them to the card would work. There's an option to install the maps to card if you have a card inserted during the process using the CDs.

The reason I think this is necessary is because there might be references to the exact map location in TomTom, so if the maps are moved it gets confused.

Also, you shouldn't need the PA only map, it is included in the larger map combo.

Thanks. I think I finally got a handle on it. I had to completely uninstall the program and do it all over again. Unfortunately, I also hadn't gotten the bluetooth connection to the GPS setup, and doing that late in the game screwed up TomTom all over again. After 3 or 4 reinstalls, I think I might have it working now. Ugh. Moral of this story - before installing TomTom, have your SD card in and working, have your maps installed if doing so by hand, and have your bluetooth setup and tested, THEN install TomTom.
