Axim X51V Magnesium Metal Case

Does anyone have this case???

If so I have a few questions.
1> Is it a "smooth" finish or does it have a texture to it???
2> Does the cover fold complete flat on the back or does it stick out a bit???
3> Do you think it will fit into a car "cradle" when opened or would it be to thick???

I want a case I can use with a "squeezable" car cradle. I have the Rhino Case now and you can't put it into the car cradle/holder with the case open. This case looks like it would work for just that purpose.

Since I haven't found a retailer that carries these there is no way to just go look at one and see if it would work and/or feel it for texture. And since ordering and returning something from an online retailer is no picnic usually, I would LOVE to hear some feedback if anyone has any.

I love it. The lid will fold flat though it extends down the back a little. The matte color is perfect. It's very though, I just stepped on it in the garage with no effect. Con: To sync in the cradle you need to remove it or use a cable hookup to use it in the case. To use the cable hookup you need to file or Dremel the sides of the opening, may be a problem if you're not into this stuff.

Is the cable port to small??? It looks big enough to fit the sync cable that I use just fine. Hmmm...that's interesting as I would not like to file or dremmel a brand new case....Has anyone else had this issue???

Otherwise I love the look of the case and I'm very interested in getting one over leather as I think the protection would be far superior.

I have a Dell mains charging lead that also allows me to connect to the computer via USB.

I have to take the Axim x51v out of the magnesium case to get the lead to fit the bottom socket - it's only a matter of millimeters. (Interestingly, I have a portable battery pack for charging from rechargeable batteries and this is slightly narrower and fits while it is in the case - thankfully, as when I resort to rechargeable AAs I am likely to be in the field and away from my car - I have a car charging lead too).

I have dropped the Axim on a number of occasions, not always my fault, and the case is brilliant. It is snug and holds the device very securely. I have used lots of leather cases for my Sony Ericsson P-series smartphones and the do well but I feel so much better about the mag. case.

I'm also interested in this case. Does the paintwork flake off after a while?
And if you guys remember how high were the highest falls the mag cases suffered?

I have dropped the Axim from a maximum of 3 feet (accidently) onto a solid floor e.g not wood or carpet.

There is wear on my case around the edges but not flaking paint; more like the sort of wear in an electroplated item that has been used a lot where you can see the underlying metal. It doesn't stand out and no one I have shown my Axim & case to has made the slightest remark about it.

On one corner it might be described as a chip but this is the top cover and when in use it's folded back. Besides it is a small price to pay when it gives so much protection.

This is definately the best protective case I have had for any of my personal electrical devices - smartphones, PDAs (though this is my first), laptops,etc.

Was wondering about a case question as well.

Dell is running a program where you get their Rhinoskin Alum. case for free. Is the Mag. one that everyone raves about, that much better than the Rhinoskin one?

Well I ordered this today...Hopefully my sync cable will work without having to modify the case at all. I have read on other forums that this is not a problem for some.

I will most definately post a full review under this thread when I've had a chance to use the case for a couple weeks. Hopefully that'll help someone else make an informed choice one way or another.

Does the Mag case have room for an extended battery, like the 2200??? Or can it only fit the battery that Dell provides for it. THanx
