SD Card Problems

Please bear with me. This is the first time I posted form like this. The problem is. I receive a new AXIM 51V last week. Had everything working except the SD card. If I put the one video on the card it works fine some of the time. If I put 2 videos on the card I get the following error messages:

Cannot play the file is when corrupted or the player does not support the format you are trying to play or

Cannot perform the requested action.

The same exact files and multiple on CF card and have no problem at all. Also, I am using 1 GB SD cards. If I put SD card and 400 GB or so, then pull it out and read the card on my laptop it says I have in access of 990 gb on the card and no new files on the card. Thanks in advance. Also have done many soft and hard resets.

This may or may not be your problem....

Are you transferring the files to the SD card while in your Axim or through a card reader??? Some files need to be converted into a usable format.

Just a thought....also there is this fix I don't know if you've tried this...

http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=112638

It doesn't sound like this problem but if you haven't done this...you should.

Hopefully you get your issue resolved....

Take Care,

Transferring files through a card reader. Do I need to convert them while doing this? If so, how? Applied the fix you mentioned. Did not help with this issue, but maybe safe much frustration. Thanks

I suspect you are copying the files over, when they should be converted via Activesync. If you copy to a SD or CF card in a reader, the card is used like a USB stick ie a PC portable memory and the files will in "PC format"and not PDA format.

It is best to have the card in your axim and then make a transfer either via activesync or using My computer and drop and drag the files. This way they will be converted to PDA format.

It might also not be a bad idea to reformat the card in your Axim . For this try http://www.cnetx.com/format/.

This is free to use for the first 30 days.

You crystalized my thoughts into words...lol...I was tired when typing up the explanation and after reviewing my own work, realized I didn't go into nearly enough explanation of why it should be in the Axim, Using Active Sync.

That's the beauty of forums...if you don't do a good job...someone else will come along and help....

Thanks

Is this for real? Files copied to an SD card in a PC Cardreader won't work in the Axim?

That's really annoying, as the cardreader is much faster (and more convenient) than using ActiveSync!

It depends on the files being copied.

Try copying over a jpeg, word or excel file to a card inserted into a PDA and you will see the screen showing that the file is being converted as it is moved.

Ah I see... it seems fine for videos, mp3's and ebooks which is mainly what I copy to SD card. I guess it does some document conversion for things like word and excel.

i thought these infos are useful for someone:

-Always use the desktop version of Windows Media Player to synchronize (copy) files to your Pocket PC. For example, do not use Windows Explorer to drag and drop files from your computer to your Pocket PC.
-Always synchronize files to a storage card that is inserted into your Pocket PC. Do not synchronize to a storage card that is inserted into a storage card reader.
-The desktop version of Windows Media Player is only available for computers running Windows XP. If you are not running Windows XP on your desktop computer, use the Copy to CD or Device feature of Windows Media Player 9 Series to copy your audio files and video files to your device.
-The desktop version of Windows Media Player 9 Series is not as full-featured as the desktop version of Windows Media Player 10. For example, the desktop version of Windows Media Player 9 Series does not support automatic synchronization, synchronization of playlists, synchronization of album art, or synchronization of TV shows recorded by computers running Windows XP Media Center Edition.
