Notification Error - PINotification.exe

Hi

I am getting the following error when I switch on my Axim:

Notification error
Cannot execute
PINotification.exe

I then have to tap "ok" 3 times and the message disapears.
I use a 4 digit password to log in and this is still working fine and I can still access all of my programs. To try to stop the message reappearing, I have reloaded previously saved system settings; but to no avail. I have not tried a hard reset.


I would be grateful if someone could let me know:
Is this error message important?
Can I fix it?
Do I need to fix it?

My apologies if this has been covered on this forum. I have tried searching, but can find no reference to this particular error.

The error message comes from Pocket Informant. Have you relocate some of its files, or uninstall, or delete Pocket Informant lately? Your system cannot find "PINotification.exe" which is located in \Windows.

Yes - I have uninstalled pocket informant (though it seems I missed a bit!).
I was assuming that with PIN as the first three letters that it refered to my ID no, not another program. Newbies eh??

Hi Stumpy,

Eh! Do this.

The first two characters refers to Pocket Informant.

To completely remove all Pocket Informant (PI) data, etc:

1) Remove all files in:
\My Documents\WebIS\
This is where all the settings, journal, ht, backup files are stored.

2) Run the PI Uninstaller:
Start > Settings > System Tab > Remove Programs. This will remove & reset registry settings, remove PI Journal, and Links databases.

Next remove the files in \Windows folder.
USE FILE EXPLORER and SHOW ALL FILES (Menu > Show All Files):

3) Go to \Windows and look for:

PIAlarmNoteCreate.exe
PINotification.exe
PITab.exe
PINewAppt.dll
PINewTask.dll
PINewAlarmNote.dll
PINewContact.dll
PocketInformant.htm
PIResources.dll
PITools.dll
PIControlPanel.cpl
PISettings.dat
PocketInformant.exe (You may not find this here.)
tgetfile.dll

4) In addition to the above (in case I miss something), look for files that start with PI and end with .exe/.dll or that have the word PocketInformant in them and delete those as well.

5) Look for all shortcuts in \WINDOWS\Startup, or WINDOWS\Start Menu and delete them.

6) Delete the entire \Program Files\WebIS\PocketInformant folder

Axim now works fine again.
