Bluetooth and MS Activesync
Since posting the problem seen below, and before receiving any responses, I've managed to establish BT connectivity with my laptop ... but I would be hard-pressed to explain exactly how I did it. Sound familiar anyone?
------------------------------------------------------------
I've tried repeatedly, unsuccessfully, to employ MS Activesync using Bluetooth. I can sync using USB with no problem (i.e., all Outlook 2003 data transfers fine, as do media files using MS Media Player 10.
I've followed both the owner's manual and Mahstuh's procedures for setting up a partnership using USB cable between my Sony VAIO (PCG-Z1WA) and the AXIM X51v. After making both devices discoverable, I've had the laptop search and discover the Axim using the Bluetooth Device function in Control Panel. It works and states the partnership is complete and that both devices will communicate from now on.
However, as soon as I disconnect the USB and try to sync using the Axim via Bluetooth connection, the Axim reports "Cannot find an existing Bluetooth partnership with a PC that supports ActiveSync. Would you like to set up a partnership now, Yes or No?" If I choose "Yes", I'm caught in the same do-loop of setting up the partnership with the ultimate result of the same error message.
- I went to Sony (laptop) support site to download any relevant updates, although none appear to be of consequence
- I've turned off all known firewalls (only one (Windows Firewall)
- I use Avast 4.6 Home ed for anti-virus
- I've added Com Ports to the laptop, both incoming and outgoing (it defaults to Com Port 5, and the Axim offers only an incoming port of 7 or 8). Do the Com ports need to be the same number on both devices? Do I have to have an outgoing Com port on the Axim?
- I've joined an Avast forum to ask whether there's a hidden firewall that might be interfering?
If I'm missing a simple fix, I cannot figure it out.
