Trouble connecting to active sync

I'm trying to get our X51 connected to my windows xp machine and it's giving me some headaches. I downloaded active sync 3.8 I believe, and it's just not working.

When open up AS it goes through the get connected thing, I plug in the axim it pops up the "found new hardware" wizard it can't find a driver, so it craps out. And AS never finds the PDA, I click next...still won't find it.

Is there something I'm missing? I don't have the disk that came with the Axim, so I'm a bit lost.

Open Active Sync. Click on File >> Connection Settings and make sure that "Allow USB connections" has been checked. Sometimes this setting falls out on mine and I can't connect.

I also have checked "Show status icon in the task bar" and have not checked "allow USB connections to one of the following".

"This computer is connected to:" is set to automatic and "Open ActiveSync when my device is connected" is checked.

Hope this helps. It looks as though your computer is recognizing the device is there, but ActiveSync is not firing up.

If you've WM5, AS3.8 will not work. You'll need to download AS4.1 & install it. Remember to remove AS3.8 first.

If you still have problem, post back & include your Outlook ver.

Make sure you don't have a firewall running like ZoneAlarm. Only took me a day to figure that one out.

Well now I feel stupid. I didn't realize there was a newer version of AS. I updated that and it worked immediately. Thanks a lot for all the help!
