Must Reboot PC to Connect w/Activesync

Axim X51V (ao6) connects to and sync's with home PC (P4, winxp sp2, activesync 4.1). Can disconnect and/or power down Axim and the Axim will reconnect when reattached or powered up

At work Axim will connect and sync with laptop (dell lattide D600, winxp sp2, activesync 4.1) only the first time. If the Axim is disconnected or switched off (even just standby) the connection is lost and cannot be re-established. The laptop must be rebooted to reconnect.

Windows firewall is enabled, but the exceptions for the various activesync programs are listed and exceptions are enbled.

This issue exists whether the axim is connected via the port replicator USB connection or the USB connection on the laptop itself.

Any suggestions to correct this issue would be greatly appreciated.

A small workaround that might help is to use a program called ActiveSync Toggle Beta. It properly stops and can restart ActiveSync, something task manager does not do. You can use it instead of rebooting, but it doesn't solve the problem completely, just makes it easier to deal with.

Thanks for the help, but did not do the trick. Tried both available versions and all of the orders of steps (eg: disable, enable, connect etc.) that I could come up with, no luck.

A couple other things I would try:

Update all drivers (esp. USB controller or CPU chipset) on your laptop from Dell's support downloads page for that model/service tag.

Delete the association on the laptop for the PPC in Activesync in File-->Delete Mobile Device. Allow recreation of the profile under a different name upon next sync.

Also, are you a member of the administrator group on the laptop?
