deauthorizing Power Point

Under folder options/file types in IE, there is a way to authorize a certain file type to open power point. I want to use a viewer program instead of power point, but since getting the Axim, I can't use the viewer any longer. Do you know how to change the file type in the Axim that will allow me to state which program I want to open files?

There is a freeware program titled "my Extensions" you can use to change file associations on your Pocket PC. Go to the ppt or pps and associate it with the application you want to open by default with that extension.

Hi Paige,

Method 1:
Use File Explorer.
1. From desktop, right click the file (e.g. ".dat") you want to associate w/.
2. Select properties.
3. Select Open with ...
4. Select the program you want to open w/.
Do this with your Axim connected.

The other method is to use class association. Edit the Axim's registry and add a new key (e.g. .dat) to \hkey_classes_root.

Hi Paige,

A file association happens when you open a file w/ a program either from the desktop or from your Axim (Ax).

E.g.
You want, by default, to open a ".pic" file from Ax.

From desktop, start Windows Explorer. Next, open the folder that contain, say, a picture file called "MyNiceCar.pic". When you right click the file, you'll see a menu. You can select "Open with" or "Properties".

"Open with" will give you a choice of programs to select from to open your "MyNiceCar.pic". Let's assume the program you choose is called "CarViewer.exe". After selecting "CarViewer.exe", your "MyNiceCar.pic" will open. Every time you double click a ".pic" file, "CarViewer.exe" will open it.

Your Axim should also have "CarViewer.exe".
Next time, when you click "MyNiceCar.pic" from within your Ax, "CarViewer.exe" will be the default viewer program. The next time you sync/unsync, the association will transfer over to the Ax. When you double click a ".pic" file w/ File Explorer (Axim), CarViewer.exe will open thu ".pic" file.

Another method would be:
You have a progam in Ax called PictureViewer.exe. Start PictureViewer.exe, open a picture file named "LookGood.pic". Quit.

The next time you use File Explorer from Axim to click (open) another file named "MyHouse.pic", PictureViewer.exe will be the default program to open it as well as all the ".pic" files.
