DELL Axim X51v + Haicom HI305III (CF GPS)
Hi!
I'm new in this forum... I just got my DELL and a CF GPS. The GPS and PDA is working nice together (as far as I can see). Sorry I can't say the same when I use Tomtom 5.21. I have sattelite connection for about one minute. Frustrating . Have tried some different setups, a new driver (elSerial.dll) from Haicom, some hints here and there, but nothing seems to work. Even more frustrating...
Please help me if you can. I'm desperate and want to navigate.
Thanks!
Best regards, Tom

Me too....
I have the Haicom 305III CF GPS card and have just taken delivery of an X51v.
I have been using the GPS unit in my old iPaq 3660 but this was showing it's age and was very slow.
I use TomTom 5, OziexplorerCE and Anquet 6 (with PPC).
I have installed all three pieces of software with varying results.
OziexplorerCE: Sees GPS and works OK - can detect Haicom serial port (COM4) - This really is robust software!
TomTom 5: It won't see the GPS unit - though I think it did detect it once - I need to try some more things to isolate the problem.
Anquet 6: Doesn't like the 640*480 screen - can't even get it configured!
So - I'm not impressed.
I also have a related problem. After the initial install of the Haicom unit I keep getting prompted for the name of the driver for the CF card I have inserted - I have tried typing in elSerial - but it still asks the next time. So I suspect Haicom haven't got a WM5 compatible driver yet.

GPS software configuration
I can not specifically help you but at least I can point you in the right direction.
Try the forums at the GPSPassion.com. They have lots of users using AXIM with TomTom Navigator.
Cheers,
netscorer.

Haicom 305 III CF GPS and A12
I have placed some posts in this forum regarding the non-working of the Haicom 305 III CF GPS card in my AXIM X51v.
Well, last night I took the plunge and upgraded from A06 to A12, relatively painlessly. I then had to re-install my apps, three of which are navigation / topo. (TomTom 5.21, Pocket Anquet 6.0.9 and OziExplorerCE 1.12.3e)
With A06 all three apps worked well with my TomTom GPSII bluetooth unit. With the Haicom I could only get OziExplorer to work flawlessly and TomTom only after a soft reset each time. Pocket Anquet hardly ever seemed to work.
With A12 All three apps seem to work as they should - haven't had time to do exhaustive testing yet - but it seems very promising.
Dell have changed something around this area because when I insert the Haicom I get the pop-up saying unrecognised card (which I did with A06) but also another pop up saying that it doesn't recognise the modem. I dismiss both of these pop ups and off we go.
I will give it some more testing over this week-end - but it looks useable again.
I still prefer the BT GPS for a number of reasons (e.g. power drain, compactness) but it does give me an alternative solution for the car where the two issues above aren't as problematic.

hi there,
i second all of that! same model, also A12, and HI-305III.
BUT ...DONT put in the gps card with an sd card inserted in the haicom's SD slot. my programs cant recognize the haicom then anymore.
and neither does the SD slot work as another drive/memory.
but i bought a 4GB sd card so i dont need the haicom's internal sd slot anymore.

Has anyone been able to read a SD card in the 305's slot?
Haicom's support says it works but I've never had success.

After a lot of trials, the only navigation software who works well with my X51V and the Haicom hi 305 III is the iGO 2006. The SD slot still missing...
