***Opps - I just noticed I mis-read your original post - you are asking for apps for Dell's latest Axim, while I have the first Dell Axim. I'll leave the post up in case someone finds it of interest. Sorry about that...***
Great Freebie Apps:
Already Mentioned: Total Commander CE
Classic Arcade PacMAN
This is the same PAC-MAN I played as a teenager in the '80s. Unfortunately the Dpad on my x5 doesn't seem to be designed for gaming. OTOH, I am not much into games, but I do hand off my "Della" to my kids when we are in the car, it keeps them occupied and allows me to concentrate on driving.
Rubiks Cube & Chess
Click on "products" and then the "rubik's cube" to find a couple of additional logic games for PPCs; all are very, very well done. imho
I also purchased several apps:
Pocket Informant v4 If you install the trial version you will balk at the very thought of going back to the default Windows PIM - wonderfull color-coding and so much more!
SBSH iLauncher 2.2
This gives me big, beautiful icons on my Today Screen, easy access to all my programs. Well worth < 9 usd - imho.
Cash Organizer '05 Premium by Inesoft
I test-ran several personal finance solutions, this app best fit my needs and WAS reasonably priced. I say "was" because I just bought it 2 weeks ago and it's now 2x the price I paid for the same version #! I double-checked my invoice and version number just to be sure I wasn't mistaken. I pd $14.95 at Handango on 1-28-06, and today the price is listed at $29.95! That's quite a hike and puts it at a price above it's competitors.
When my trial period is up I will also be getting:
SplashID for Pocket PC, 3.32
I found Splash ID's column format to be much more user-friendly than the competitiion's tree formatting (eWallet & the at least 2 additional trial products I downloaded and tried out)
One app I bought almost immediately, and now don't know if I really needed it, is
AlarmToday
My understanding early on (meaning when I first got my Della, the week after Christmas 2005) was that AlarmToday is the only verified "fix" for a WM2003 OS alarm wake-up bug. Only I am not sure if this was accurate info if you are using the latest updates/OS available for your Axim x5.
I *think* this bug was fixed in WM2003SE, but since WM2003SE is not available for the x5, this problem may actually persist on my Della. I've used this app since day one, so I can't really say. Regardless, AlarmToday a convenient Today screen plug-in for organizing and setting alarms, and I am now organizing my ADD-centric mind with the help of PPC alarms so this is a REAL plus for me, and it only cost < $8 usd.
I am somewhat of a software junkie and my "new-to-me" Dell x5 is giving me a new platform to play on.
BTW, I am still looking for a scientific calculator application... any suggestions?
