Not seeing files, just program folders.
Okay I know this is a newbie question but I am at a loss as to how I correct this issue in the past. My X51v is not seeing files on my storage cards. When you go to Exel Mobile it comes up blank, I know there are over 20 files on the two cards. Also when you try to change the folders from “all folders” to one on a card, it shows only program files and not storage files. This holds true for Word Mobile, Notes, etc. ;(
I had this same thing when I started using my X5, but I don’t remember how to correct it. I must be getting old. Any assistance in this would be most helpful as it is making my days at work most long and frustrating.

Howdy Radwags-
When you use the Mobile Office programs and use the open dialog box, it only displays compatible formats that it can find in the folders you look at. No other files in the folders will display like exes etc. This is to provide a clean file selection screen without clutter of incompatible files. To verify your xls compatibility, try browsing to the files through your favorite file explorer and attempt opening them through it. If you copied the files to the card via card reader instead of Activesync, the proper file conversion will not have occurred.

Thank you for the idea, I gave it a try and it did not solve the problem. I can open them all in Explorer, but when I close the file and it defaults to the program, the file is not seen. And if you ask to change the folders the folder the file was in is not seen either. I used these cards on my X5 and all the files were down loaded though Active Sync. So I am still looking for the fix, and I know it was a small little thing. The hardest to find of course.

Have you tried changing the option in Excel's menu from 'Excel only' to 'known types'?

U mentioned that you can use File Explorer to move thru your FOLDER & SUBFOLDER, well, this is normal.
What is the path to your document?
If you've a document called "Answer.txt" located in the SD Card, which is in a subfolder named "Forums" created under/from the main folder named "Axim", then the path to the document is \SD Card\Axim\Forums\Answer.txt.
If that is the case, no Mobile Office Apps can "see" the documents. Only the File Exlporer can "move" thru the path to your document. Mobile Word, Excel, or PPT can only "see" documents in the 1st level folder (Axim).
If you select Start > Word, even if u select All Folders, it is normal that you "cannot see" your documents (which appears to be missing) bcos they are more than 1 level below the main folder.
Please find out the path to your document? Do this:
1. Start > File Explorer
2. Click the UP softkey (lower left), until it is gray.
3. Click "SD Card" folder.
4. Click 1st level folder (e.g. Axim).
5. Click the next level folder (Forums) until you see your document.
If path is the issue, which I believe is very likely, then you'll have to move all your documents to the main folder.
Let me know your path (e.g. \SD Card\Level\Level2\myDoc.xls).

So here is the path to one of my frequently used files, as it is right now:
\SD Card\My Documents\work\rf.xls
I also tried the file in this configuration:
\SD Card\work\rf.xls
And it seems to be the fix. Is this one of MS’s new more helpful upgrades? I liked having the sub files like those on my desk top computer.
Thanks for the assistance gentleman. This site is a great resource.

You've got it. Your "\SD Card\work\rf.xls" wiil always work.
As I said B4, all Mobile Office documents must be in the 1st level folder (work) in order to be seen. MS excuse was they removed the "path function" to compact their pda apps. The "path function" will take up space ... business strategy.
Its something we've to live with, until MS gets enough concerns. If someone plans to write to MS regarding this, add my vote.
