Gmail & Outlook challenge

X51V, 4.1 sync,

I have configured my pda to download from gmail.

1. emails/files are downloaded with the first send/receive wirelessly but when I send/receive again, they all disappear. Shouldn't they stay on my pda until I delete them manually?

2. If gmail/emails are downloaded via wireless they are not available to the computer Outlook. How can I download emails wirelessly, go home and have them on Outlook as well?

My Axim X51V wirelessly accesses email, but it is not available to download to Outlook on the desktop without logging into the website and re-enable pop3 download of all messages.

I would like to be able to access email wirelessly on the road with my PDA and return to the office and have the email in my outlook until I manually delete them.

The only way I can do this is with multiple accounts all forwarding to each other.

Any ideas?

Thanks Tincups

Greetings Tincups:

1. It is the default setting of WM5 Outlook to keep only the last 3 days of messages. What you are seeing may be the old messages getting deleted while you get your more recent 3 days worth of messages.

2. You can force your Axim to overwrite your desktop configuration, but there is not a combine option as there was in the previous versions of Activesync and Windows Mobile. You can configure whether to replace items on either the device or the desktop.

I've noticed that gmail handles their 'mail read' flags a little differently than other POP services. With others, I can have multiple clients get the same messages as long as that client hasn't downloaded them yet. With gmail, when one client downloads an email, other POP clients do not get it. Food for thought...

So there isn't an equivalent in Outlook on the X51v as Outlook Express's 'Leave a copy of messages on server'?

I do not believe that option exists. Third party POP programs may support that option, but the bundled Outlook in Windows Mobile is quite simplified compared to the desktop version.
