lost connection using active sync 4.1

I hope I can learn here how to proper connect my Axim 51v with my pc.
After installing version 4.1 from active sync I can connect with the pc buit everytimne the connection is lost after a minute or so.

I'm running windows 2000 serv.pack 4 and active sync 4.1
I've configured my norton firewall according the official microsoft instructions. and even when I disable my firewall this doesn't solve the problem.
I'm not using a usb hub or any other usb devise. Usb port is ok, checked that with other devices. (and offcourse restarted all).
I'm not using avantgo.

Question is how do you people connect your axim to the pc.
What am I doing wrong here? As far as I knew I'm an advanced pc user.

Unfortunately their appears to be a problem with Activesync 4.0 or above, WM5 and Windows 2000.

Disable all network connections and try again, but you may have to consider upgrading to Windows XP to resolve the problems fullu

Thanks for your reply. In the mean time I figured out it's not win2000.
I've tried actynve sync 4.1 on an other computer and that works fine.
Must be some software or the way my pc is set up.
Haven't figured that out yet. Still working on it. At least I have some sort of work around for now.

Hi Mimas,

Like yourself, I was unable to sink after upgrading to AS4.1. My desktop is similar to yours (Win2K Pro Ed w/ SP4).

I remember reading an article (from MS) about AS4.1 "seeing" the USB as part of a network interface/connection.

My next thought was that since the 2 versions of AS "see" their connections differently, the upgrade could've corrupted the network communication (for the sync).

To proof the theory, I uninstalled my Network settings & re-install again. After re-install, I re-boot without my Axim in the cradle.

Guess what. Viola! It syncs. Never has a problem since.

First, I uninstall my Desktop's network settings:
1. Settings > Network & Dial-up Connections
2. Right click LAN
3. Select Properties
4. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
NOTE: Before uninstall, write down your network components so that you know what to re-install.
5. Uninstall > Yes
6. Repeat Steps 4 & 5 until all components used by this connection are uninstalled.

Then I re-install my network components.

Next, reboot and smile.
