New user, X51v screen protectors
Hello everyone.
I just bought a Dell X51v, the 624Mhz type. I haven't actually received it yet, but hopefully I'll have it soon. I think I might even come close to deserving it, considering all the waiting.
I ordered it December 2nd, and Dell said it would ship by the 6th of December. Then they said it would ship on the 12th, and when the 12th came they said it would ship by the 19th. Well, that day came, and when I used their web support, the lady assured me that it would ship the very next day.
I should have been logical, and questionned her. She said it "would" ship. I should have asked, "Do you mean that it Will ship, certainly, or that it would ship, under certain conditions?" Because apparently she meant what she said: it Would ship, under certain conditions, and those conditions were not fulfilled, because it didn't ship. They told me yesterday that it would ship around January 2nd.
I should have assumed that just because one isn't a native speaker of the English language (I never did speak to a Dell support person who wasn't Indian -- and don't misunderstand me; I don't dislike Indians. I just wish Dell would hire people who spoke English more understandably) doesn't mean that one can't be clever in using it. If you're wondering how I knew she was Indian, when it was web support, then it told me her name, and it was a feminine, Indian name, so my assumption seems most likely, especially considering all the telephone calls I had with them.
Well, I cancelled my order with Dell and looked around for a reputable dealer online, and found a place that would sell me the exact same one for about the same price, maybe a bit more expensively, but at least send it to me right away. That one I ordered, and I have the tracking information for it already.
But I still ordered some accessories from Dell, among them screen protectors. But on the packing slip it said: Screen protectors, 12-pack, X50/X51, not 624Mhz. I know full well that I ordered the 624Mhz version, and I even told the lady so when I ordered my accessories. When I called them today, the lady told me that they had discontinued the screen protectors because they didn't work properly. I decided to keep the ones I received in the meantime, until I find something better.
I hope that you have endured my long story. Basically my question is, what is the best, inexpensive (ie under $20 per pack, ideally about $15) screen protector for the X51v with a 3.7-inch screen? Your help is very much appreciated, and thank you in advance.

Welcome to Aximusers.com
I use Brando Ultraclear, which once fitted cannot be seen, but to be honest, most screen protectors do a similar job and are generally of good quality.
You have the choice of either a pack of "replaceables" like Dell, or the fit once and leave type. I have a feeling the latter is more popular.

The processor speed of the PPC does not impact the screen size on the X51s. The 300 and 400MHz models have the same screen dimensions and can use the same screen protectors.
I've used many different screen protectors. The ones that best imitate the feel of the screen are dense and slippery to the stylus' tap. My preference are the ones that are more sticky and tactile. They are generally cheaper and stop the stylus on contact. It's a matter of taste.

Screen Protectors
I just purchased my Dell X51v from Dell. Did not have the problems that you had. Purchased a brand new one on the Wednesday after xmas, and had it in my hands on Friday (with overnight shipping). The only thing that they did not do was to include a screen protector that I ordered. No one's perfect.
I did a quick research on screen protectors and found that there are two different types: 1)Crystal clear and 2) Anti-glare (which are a bit cloudy. I wanted the crystal clear protectors. I found three different reviews on screen protectors. These are the three that made my list. All have to be ordered since none are sold in the local stores. Wonder why?
- Write Shield C2 Premium Screen Protector Kit - $26.95 plus shipping. This one seems to be the most durable and also ultra clear. You get two screen protectors, some screen cleaner, a brush, and a soft cloth. Should have this in my little hands by Wednesday and can tell you what I think.
- Brando Workshop Ultra Clear Protector Plus Screen protector - Lower in cost, but I think this gives you only one screen protector.
- BoxWave Clea Touch Crystal Screen Protector. Think you only get one with this, but can't recall for sure. It is also cheaper than the C2.
If the Dell screen protector arrives before the C2 does, I'll go ahead and use that so that I can start configuring my X51v. Otherwise, I am on pins and needles waiting for one to arrive.
Don't know why I decided on the C2. Maybe it is because of the other things that you receive in the kit. I'll let you know how I like the C2 if you like.
Hope this helps

I've personally been using a WriteShield screen protector on my Axim x51v for about a month now. It's a little pricey but looks and works awesome. It's just as clear as the day I put it on... not a single mark from the stylus. At this rate, I doubt I'm ever going to need the second one.
...just my 2 cents

I just bought the Boxwave Anti-Glare protector (haven't tired Boxwave's Crystal Clear one yet). In my opinion, it doesn't do a whole lot when it comes to anti-glare but you do notice a slight improvement. What I like best about it is that the Anti-Glare coating (which is not much more than a tactile surface) adds a slight bit of friction similar to the feel of writing on regular paper.
After only 3 months of use, I expected to see some kind of wear either to the stylus or the protector but none so far.
I'm real happy with it so far but I still don't like how much they (screen protectors in general) cost for what they are but what are ya gonna do. It's better to have it than not and a whole lot cheaper if you every scratch your screen.
