Axim X51v is not just a WM5.0 Problem

After a month of frustration, I decided to get rid of my new Axim x51v. I still wanted WM 5.0 so this weekend I bought the Ipaq 2795. It is everything I dreamed of. It works fast, it does not freeze and it is a pleasure to have. The screen resolution is not as good as Dell's, but otherwise it's perfect. It recognizes the CF and SD cards, and when I switched to my CF card GPS, it recognized it immediately and vice versa. Now that I've seen the true power and advantages of WM 5.0, I will never go back. The Ipaq also has a better bluetooth interface. It gives you several choices and makes connecting to BT a breeze. I really wanted to tough it out with the Axim, but it became so frustrating that I would have eventually thrown it into a wall. My opinion is that Dell's firmware or ROM needs some serious work. Any thoughts?

I'm afraid I'll have to agree with you. Went from iPAQ to an Axim X50 couple of years ago and was VERY satisfied. Flawless operation. The X50 was stolen, and I sprung for the X51v. NOTHING but trouble. My London interactive tube software won't run, I get the BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH when I try to synch without first unplugging the ethernet cable from my DELL Dimension desktop.

The ethernet cable problem is a known fault in activesync. The TCP/IP settings in activesync are confused with some network connections. Activesync 4.1 is supposed to be better(?).

The main problem is that the new O/S WM5 is still buggy and needs a little time to settle in and get established. True, any manufacturer who launches a product that is not fit for purpose has a lot to answer .

I'm surprised their is not a class action looming somewhere. Give the x51 a few months and it has the potential to be a great machine.
