X51v update problem
Hi guys,
Any one some across problems with the new update? It seems everytime i try to load to the installer the pda displays "Handshaking with PC" and then "Operation abort by host PC" During this update the ActiveSync seems to close.
The installer program then displays "ensure the usb is properlly connected" And before you say did you, yep everything connects fine before i try updating.
To get the pda back in working order i then had to remove the battery as all the buttons were unresponsive (guessing it goes into a sub boot loader".
Any help on this issue would be great, as the customer support are primates which love bananna's and don't have a clue.
Cheers

I have only heard of anything like this once, and this seemed to be resolved when the user downgraded from activesync 4.1 to 4.0.
Are you syncing direct to a PC or via a hub ??. It is best to sync direct to a PC.
Also if you can, disconnect all other devices and try a different usb port. Just in case, it is also worth downloading and re installing activesync

Thanks for your reply Drifter,
I thought it could be that i was using 4.00 instead on 4.1, downloaded the update and it still gave me the same error.
Tried both usb ports (not using a hub), reinstalled activesync through the cd too.
It seems when the installer program update enters handshaking, active sync quits, in the "unplug or eject hardware" displays a yellow question mark by the device, guessing that the computer hasn't got the corrrect drivers loaded onto the computer. I've tried reinstalling the drivers through the disc but it wants to use a generic on the pc (which isn't the right one) and won't let the cd drivers on actyivesync be installed.
I have only 1 computer so i cant try it out on another, any other ideas?
Cheers

Does activesync work normally ????, that is without the update running.
The other thing to try is to disable any firewall on your PC, it could be that as soon as the update starts, your PC sees the axim as a new device and the firewall disconnects it to protect itself.

ActiveSync seems to work fine, i can use it to explore the pda, but it has problems sync-in with, favourites, contacts etc.
I haven't got any firewall installed, and as far as i'm aware win2k doens't have one built in.
Cheers

Their appears a common thread here - Windows 2000.
Microsoft have a section on Activesync problems and this can be found at
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...c/default.mspx
Two slightly offbeat comments in this hit me as being possible causes of upgrade problems.
1) Activesync and WM5 do not work well with hubs or laptop docking stations. The MS advise is to connect direct to the main machine.
2) This is just crazy enough the be the problem. Apparently activesync can sometimes see a USB WM5 connection as conflicting with a WiFi connection request and will disconnect this in favour of a network connection.
Try disabling your network connections and then upgrading the OS in Win2000. This problem is just crazy enough to cause the symptioms that people are seeing.

I updated to ActiveSync 4.1 before updating to A04. Worked fine. Had to reload all my software, but a bottle of red wine and Green Day's American Idiot helped.

similar problems
I have an x51v with xp media center, and I got a fatal system error/crash/blue screen when trying to update the rom file. I then tried to update active sync from 4.0 to 4.1 and then my axim was not recognized. And yet again I had another system error. I have opened my firewall. I spent way to many hours talking to "roger".
Somethings got to give.
