Cannot upgrade x50v to Mobile5
I just received the mobile5 upgrade CD two days ago for my Axim x50v.
I was able to upgrade ROM from 2003 A01 to 2003 A05 using the file download from Dell support site before without problem.
With the new CDs, I first upgraded ActiveSync to 4.0 without problem. When I tried to upgraded the ROM, it copied the ROM image to my Axim (which took only a few seconds, this is wierd b/c the image file is 41M, it should take minutes to sync to Axim). Axim claimed that it received the image file, upgraded and asked for a hard reset in seconds. After I hard reset, the operation system remained to be 2003 A05. And the upgrade program running on my desktop basically got stuck (it's a dialog without any button). I have tried it several times, also repeated the process on another XP professional desktop, same thing.
Anyone with similar experience? Anyone know how to get such support from Dell? I suspect somehow the image was not transferred at all.
I am also thinking of copying the IMG file directly to CF card, but I don't know how to force a ROM update on x50v. (There were threads mentioning power+reset+scroll+contact, but that's not for x50v).
Any help is appreciated.

The problem is that few people have the ROM upgrade at present and many are holding back installing until they hear results from other users as the WM 5 upgrade is supposed to have many bugs.
I would download the WM5 to WM3 downgrade ( yes downgrade) from the Dell site and run this on your x50, at least that should give you a working system.
Did you back up the old ROM as part of the process ?. How long did that take ?
The WM5 upgrade should take about 10-15 mins to transfer so your thoughts are correct.
Once you have downgraded, try the upgrade again, if this does not work again, you should call Dell to complain about the problem and arrange a replacement CD or if the downgrade fails and the upgrade has left you with a system that does not work, ask for a replacement X50

I initially tried to upgrade directly from 2003 A01, which did not work. Then I tried the Dell A01 to A05 upgrade program, it did backup the ROM, which takes 10min (the A05 ROM is 36M). That's when I am convinced that the WM5 upgrade did not really pushing the ROM to x50v. My Axim is now in 2003 A05, which is in a working condition, so I don't have to downgrade it.

I had exactly the same problem when I did upgrading last night.
Is there anyone that had found a solution?

Try upgrading to Activesync 4.1 ( downloadable) and disable any firewalls you have.
It might then work as the new Activesync versions seem to have problems with firewalls

Thanks,
but I hesitate to do the upgrading now, since it's boring and some guys are suggesting downgrading from wm5 to wm 2003.
I just have not enough time to test that

A wise move, I have the upgrade also, but wait for Dell to issue a new update before I do anything

Amorna, its a complicated question. We need your symptoms/ exact problems to answer the question as most of the upgrade difficulties are PC related.
First off you need to upgrade activesync to 4.1 and then switch off all firewall and virus protection. The axim should be mains powered, then you should be able to upgrade.........
if you really want to

Drifter! Thank you for your concern (^_^)
I already upgraded AS to 4.1 it can sync with all my PPC.
I also can upgrade my X50v 2003SE from A4 to A5, however, I still can't upgrade to WM 5.0 .
Somethings on PC has interrupted update utility....
I followed on-screen instruction, after the first hard reset it forced me to align screen in 2003 SE. On PC, it stopped responding here:
sometimes it shows;
I used sync cable with AC Adapter already, don't know why I can't.....
Thank you for any suggestion(^_^)
