Question Axim x51v memory and storage issue

I just got a new Axim x51v. I check Setting/memory and it shows as follow

Storage Total 197.88 MB In Use 4.78 MB Free 193.02 MB
Memory Total 49.47 MB In use 17.79 MB Free 31.68 MB

These numbers are different from System Information

RAM size 64MB and ROM 256 MB

So assume total storage should be close to 256 MB and total Memory should be cloase to 64MB

Anybody can help to know what happen, is it supposed this way or else?

Yes this is normal, The "missing" memory is holding the operating system and program files.

The numbers quoted by DEll and system info are the total memory, where as setting/memory will report what memory is available to or used by the user

Question

Drifter

Thank you very much for the quick response. But I still don't understand the issue and may be you can help me further.

As for the Setting/Momeory shows (In my x51v, Memory Total 49.47 MB In use 17.79 MB Free 31.68 MB). If the hiden memory ( 14.5 MB (64-49.47) in my case) is used for storage of the operating system and other files, then what are the 17.79 MB used for? I thought this 17.79MB (shown as In use) should be used for storage of the operating system and other files. May be I am wrong, please help.

Thank you again

I think they key question is that you are concerned that your X51 is faulty or is not giving you all the memory you are expecting ?

I receive my x51V in about 10 days and will tell you what the out of the box status is.

BUT in my humble opionion, your x51 is working correctly, the key issue is that Dell are giving the best memory capacity they can, without mentioning how much the basic OS and system uses just to operate

Right, I mean, that's the case with any storage card. For example, I got a 1.0 GB Compact Flash card (translates to 1024 MB) the other day, right out of the box it was only 977 MB. It just kind of gets eaten due to formatting, it's a fact of life.
