What is the most current Windows Mobile OS for AXIM X51v???

I just purchased an AXIM X51v and I believe it has Windows Mobile 5.0 on it.

Isn't Windows Mobile 6.5 the most current release?

How do I upgrade from 5.0 to 6.5?

Welcome to the site Paul. A little background on the axim, Dell discontinued support in early 2007, and the last legal ROM version was WM5 version AO12, which is still available at Dells site. As for later versions, there are cooked or hacked roms available for the axim, try a search for Lennysh, HTCaddicts, maaku or football rom for axim. Flashing a rom is not that complicated, you can search here for that, there's a video link somewhere on the site, that shows how it's done. As for WinMo 6.5, it is the latest version, and the only rom for the axim is by Lennysh at HTC addicts. It's a memory hog though, and if you have a standard x51v, it will struggle to run it. In general WinMo 6.5 is still not widely available, It was released 4th quarter last year and I had to wait for two months for the legal update for my Touch Diamond 2 from HTC.

I think Makuu has a "lite" 6.5 and there are some out there running Lenny's L14 on 64mb RAM axim's. You can try them all. Right now I'm running Lenny's 6.1 barebones edition (the last one i could find)
