Sync Connection Problem with XP & X51V
Hi,
Have been happily syncing my PDA for a couple of years and am probably on back-level of PC and PDA software, however until a couple of days ago "it ain't broke" etc !
When putting PDA into cradle, the PC detects "something" and Active Sync status changes from "Not Connected" to "Connecting", similarly if the PDA is removed from the cradle status reverts to "Not Connected".
On the PDA the power button flashes green and I "occaisionally" see reference to a "message" on a screen of its own titled "We're Sorry..." which advises "A problem has occurred with services.exe" with options to "Don't Send" or "Send" (to Microsoft). On selecting "Send" nothing appears to happen (presumably because there is no connection). Once this event is displayed, the power button stops flashing. If PDA is then replaced in cable, power light changes to orange (charging).
Yesterday after numerous soft resets it did actually connect and the unit synchronised (seemed to "hang" on first occaision, so "Stopped" sync, when it finally stopped after about 2-3 mins, a manual sync ran to completion).
At this point I powered PC off and didn't touch the PDA other than to "power off" to turn of screen. On booting PC this morning it wouldn't connect.
Have looked around the forum and tried one or two things but to no avail. As there doesn't seem to be a direct match for this thought I'd seek advice before getting into some of the "hairier" options !
The last "change" on my PC was a load of Microsoft auto-update patches around 10th June but I don't believe there is a direct correlation between this and my problem.

Ah, the joys of MS software. Great when it works, but...
Me, I would try uninstalling AS from XP, deleting all relationships on the Axim, re-installing AS and then putting the Axim in the cradle. It might give it the jolt it needs to pick up the connection again.
You haven't said what the couple of things you did are, so apologies if this suggestion is one of them. It would also be useful to know which ROM version you're running. Are you enough of a propellorhead to want to try upgrading your ROM?
Welcome to the group & good luck. Let us know how it goes.

Hi, basically the "couple of things" tried relate to soft reset and unselecting the "Enable advanced network functionality".
Have downloaded ActiveSync 4.5 and will attempt to install etc.
On the petrolhead front, that sounds "hairy" unless someone can "hand hold" !
ROM Version is A12(06200600)

Thought I'd just try connecting the PDA to my wife's laptop as a new install. Failed top connect there as well. Am beginning to wonder if the cradle might be the issue, even though it appears to notice something is present.
Anyone know how this can be checked ?

Have just tried a frinds cradle and still can't "Connect" so guess the problem relates to the PDA itself or Active Sync on the PC.
Any thoughts ?

It is possible that you have a hardware problem, but it is extremely unlikey unless your just overly rough with your AX when putting it in the cradle. At this point i'd suggest backing up your data and doing a hard reset. No matter what anyone says, you do have to hard reset these things every so often for some reason. Personally i think it's because there's no way to defrag the memory like on a regular harddrive.

I upgraded from Active Sync 4 to 4.5 today...I have an Axim x51v running A01 - I had it open and trying to connect for a lifetime.
it was so bad that Task manager couldnt close it - it froze tyhe desk top (100%CPU) and it was Rapimgr.exe that was using 99% of it...couldnt even cancel with end process.
I removed 4.5 and went back to 4.0 - works perfectly again and CPU is back to normal

Sorry for the tardy response "Blue" have been a bit nervous about the hard reset but had no reason to be with the benefit of hindsight as I had very little to lose if things went wrong - which they didn't !
After hard reset it syncs
I do have a slight problem in that while I can connect to my personal wireless network I don't seem to be able to view any web pages. Will scan the forum for tips.
Thanks again.
