pds does not switch on

I have a Dell axim x50v for three years now.
All of a sudden, I can not switch it on.
Tried soft re-set, no success.
I have been asked to take the battry out and then place the pda inside the charger stand and then switch it on. If it works then it means the battry needs to be replaced with a new one. Otherwise, I will have to do a hard re-set which means everything inside the pds will be lost.
I have a backup which is on my PC. But not sure if that back up has saved all the calender, notes, ect...

Questions:
1) Are these the correct procedures to solve the problem?
2) If I end up doing a hard re-set, then how do I use the backup from PC into the pda?
3) Is there a mobile phone that has the same functionalities and capabilities as my PDA?

Yes, that is the best advice for your problem.

If you do a hard reset, go to the back up utility and there is an option to import a back up file.

And finally, there are some mobile phones out there that are almost to the point of being on par with an AX such as the HTC PDA phones offered by ATT and others. However, the phones don't have the screen size that your AX has, nor do the phones have the speed of your AX. The fastest processor speed that i've found on PDA phones is 400mhz. IMHO, while i would like upgrade to an all in one PDA phone. I can't justify the cost of a new PDA phone due to the loss of performance compared to the AX.
