update from wm2003se to wm5 problems

i hope it is ok to post for help with the axim, i noticed others have so i figured i would, since i am getting desperate.

ok obviously i am a newb at this or i probably would not have this problem so please bear with me.

i downloaded the Dell_Axim_X50_X50v_wm2005_A01 99mb file and then went threw the install process. the first problem was that since i am using vista it does not seem to work with windows mobile center v6... when it tries to install i get bast the "update rom" and the warning to backup, then it verifies the device and cautions about clearing all the data, then when i click continue it freezes and my axim says "wait for usb to be ready...", then a few seconds later the installer says "ROMUpdateUTILITY MFC application has stopped working" and i have to close the program. I then have to hard reset my axim.

i then tried to flash the rom by putting the files on the sd card like it says in this forum but when i do that i get to the "SD Image A01 update" and then it says "no suitable image found" and then "image update failed, please try again"
I have tried it with both the following images that were in the zip cause i was not sure which one was the correct one.... niether one works.

AximX50_B_WM5_A01EN

is this a vista compatability issue? a mobile center v6.1 issue? or is it my stupidy?

any advice.

all i want to do is update from wm2003se to wm 5

ok, must have been vista cause i went to a friends house and it upgraded fine on xp

Welcome to the site Laujeman, sorry I didn't get to this sooner, You probably need the latest version of WMDC, to sync with Vista they addressed some of the syncing issues. Let us Know how you go with WM5 on the x50/ x50v you didn't mention which model you had.

Oh sorry i have the old x50 mid

actually downloaded and reinstalled the latest (i think) WMDC before my last attemped and it did not help....

anyway its all good now

So are you syncing with your Vista pc now?

ya its wierd, i can sync and brouse files but every time i try to install somthing it hangs. i have to use a .arm file and install directly on the ppc.

actually one other problem is that my email and contacts from outlook are not syncing. it wont let me check the selection to sync them...

I want to make the jump to WM5 on my X50v, is this file legit? I don't want to add another paperweight to my collection.

Have you downloaded that file cause it is the correct file. I can link you to a download of the file at another place if you want.
