Problem Swapping Battery

When I swap the battery in my X50v and turn it on, a screen asking whether to reset the memory will appear. I can still retain the memory by pressing the mail button, but it is a soft reset. And after that, the battery will be at the level before the swap eventhough the battery had been fully charged. I can charge the battery again with it in the X50v, and it will become fully charged again very quickly.

I believe it is a hardware problem, because this behaviour persists even after I restore it to a backup dated before this problem started.

Warning for critically low battery level will also appear sometimes when battery level is still high.

Has anybody experienced similar problem before? Can this problem be fixed?

It sounds like you have a dead backup battery. You can get a new one here, from ebay, or search Google for it.

When the problem first appeared, I thought it must be the backup batttery. But the backup battery status is normal, and shown as 100% charged in Spb Pocket Plus.
Anyway, I will change the backup battery to find out if that's the problem.

Odd that your backup batt stats are normal, do you have the latest ROM for your model/OS? You didn't mention whether your X50v is running WM5 or 2003. If WM5, that OS was found to be less than optimal for the X50s and Dell dropped support for it, offering a downgrade ROM.

My X50v is running WM 2003, A05 ROM.
I am quite sure now that it is mechanical problem. Besides the problems I had mentioned, the navigation buttons are also not working, and warning about open latch appears when it is properly closed.
I have also traced to a possible cause of the problem. When I was away for a couple of days leaving the PDA at home, my 5-year old son had been using it to doddle in his paint programs and play his favourite games. He must have dropped it somehow and there are now a few loose connections somewhere.
